In Short
  • George Kittle is recovering well from an Achilles tear and recently enjoyed a golf trip with Travis Kelce and Robert Tonyan.
  • The trip took place at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort ahead of the NFL draft season.
  • Kittle aims to start the 2026 season strong after a successful rehab, expressing confidence in his recovery progress.

George Kittle’s rehab is going smoothly. The San Francisco 49ers tight end suffered an Achilles tear in January that ruled him out for the remainder of the season. Three months into his rehab, Kittle rounded up his fellow tight ends for a golf trip to Oregon.

Kittle posted photos from his recent trip to the Bandon Dunes Golf Resort on the West Coast. From the snapshots, it seems like it was mostly a guys trip before the NFL draft season kicks off in April.

The Tight End University members, Robert Tonyan and Travis Kelce, joined Kittle in this little endeavor. Yes, Kelce tagged along on the fun just days after making waves online by appearing at the iHeart Music Awards in Los Angeles, where he proudly cheered on his fiancee, Taylor Swift, as she took home her seventh award.

The duration of the team remains unknown, but one thing’s for sure—the boys enjoyed every moment of it. In a video, Kittle can be seen swinging the golf club as hard as he can while wearing a green jacket, white joggers, and a beanie. Strikingly, he paired the look with bright yellow shoes.

What happened to George Kittle?

Kittle aimed for a big year after penning a four-year, $76.4 million contract extension with the Niners before the 2025 season. With so many injuries to key players, the Niners were not expected to win many games, which made their eventual success even more surprising. Kyle Shanahan‘s team exceeded expectations by securing a spot in the competitive NFC West with a record of 12-5.

In the wildcard round, they pulled off a 23-19 win over the Philadelphia Eagles, but it came at a steep price. Kittle hurt his Achilles while completing a 6-yard catch in the second quarter. The Niners put him on the injured reserve list, ending his season. He missed the Niners’ divisional round matchup against the Seattle Seahawks, which ended in a 41-6 humiliation. In 11 regular-season games, Kittle accumulated 628 yards and 7 touchdowns on 57 receptions.

Back in March, the Pro Bowler joined the “Bussin’ with the Boys” podcast and shared that he’s on track to start in Week One of 2026.

My trajectory is fantastic. I think I get off of crutches in like a week or two, and [the medical staff] told me the hardest thing to do is walk after an Achilles…That’s the hardest jump is to go from crutches to walking, and then after that, they’re like, you’ll get to running so fast after that…But no, everything is going great with it. I’m exactly where I want to be.

Kittle, a fifth-round pick in 2017, has played 124 games for the 49ers, hauling in 595 catches for 8,008 yards and scoring 52 touchdowns. In the postseason, he has racked up 461 yards and 2 touchdowns on 34 receptions.

Kittle played a key role in the Niners landing All-Pro wide receiver Mike Evans. In an interview with Cam Inman of Marcurey News, Kittle revealed,

I told him we have one thing in mind–to win a Super Bowl, and that’s a culture people want to be around. I’ve had five Tampa Bay players reach out and say, ‘Take care of him.’ He’s the man. I’m looking forward to it.

Evans signed a three-year, $42.5 million contract. Evans spent 12 years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and won a Super Bowl in 2021.
