Travis Kelce’s welcome to the NFL moment took place in Lambeau Field when he came face-to-face with one of the hardest hitters of his time, Clay Matthews. The Green Bay Packers legend channeled so much hostility that Kelce froze in his tracks.
Kelce was on a mission to prove himself after missing out on his rookie season with a knee injury. In 2014, the Chiefs traveled to Green Bay to play the Packers, and for the first time, Kelce met with Matthews.
It was [the] 2014 [season]—one of my first games. I had maybe 10 catches total in my career up to that point [and] I’m thinking, ‘This is Lambeau. This is my moment. People are gonna know me after this.’ I see Clay Matthews and I’m like, ‘Oh f*** that’s Clay Matthews’

The Chiefs tasked Kelce to stay on Matthews’ heels. In one of the plays, Kelce landed a hit on Matthews on the backside of an outside zone run. The Super Bowl winner turned around to give him a piece of his mind. It was a humbling experience for the man from Cleveland Heights.
[Clay] squares up to me, and says, ‘Don’t fu**** ever sh** talk to me. I’ll fu**** kill you,’ [and] I just stood there… Couldn’t even say anything after that.
Kelce remembered
Matthews retweeted the interview with the caption, “Allegedly @tkelce. We were BFFs by the end of the game.“

So, water is under the bridge after all this time. Matthews spent a decade with the Packers and one year with the Los Angeles Rams. He appeared in 156 games, logging 519 tackles, 91.5 sacks, and 6 interceptions. Matthews retired from football in 2022 with 6 Pro Bowls and a Super Bowl to his name.
Travis Kelce recalled struggling to read during an SNL skit
On March 4, 2023, Kelce hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live around the time when the paparazzi were still figuring out whether the star tight end was dating pop icon Taylor Swift.

Kelce remembered having a lot of fun, but there were a few hiccups along the way, especially during the table read.
The table reading, for a guy that can’t really read that well, it was kind of a f**ked situation… I was just focused on, ‘Don’t f**king skip this line.
Travis Kelce recalled
Bussin’ Pod’s host, Taylor Lewan, agreed with Kelce.
Brother, when it comes to reading difficulties, I will be on that side of the aisle with you my entire life.
Lewan said
Kelce revealed that his preferred method is listening.
They make audiobooks now, for guys like us. You read it, I’m listening.
Kelce quipped
Travis Kelce said the “hardest” part of hosting “SNL” was the preshow table read because he “can’t really read that well":

Kelce is entering the 13th year of his NFL career. Last year ended in disappointment after the Chiefs lost against the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl 40-22. The outcome dashed Kelce’s dream of a three-peat. His direction may have changed, but the goal remains the same—to win the Super Bowl.
It will not be easy for the Chiefs to reclaim their lost glory. The recent AI survey revealed the Lombardi Trophy will remain in the NFC.
The NFL has already sent teams their schedule for the 2025 season. On opening day, the Chiefs and divisional rivals, the Los Angeles Chargers, are set to meet in Brazil.
