Travis Kelce isn’t known for being a dirty player, but he does pick up his fair share of fines from the NFL. The league flagged him for taunting a Buffalo Bills player during the AFC Championship game.
With just over two minutes left in the first half, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes scored a rushing touchdown, giving his team a ten-point lead. Kelce followed Mahomes into the end zone and tried to get a piece of the action.
However, instead of celebrating, he began smack-talking Bills safety Damar Hamlin. The referees didn’t think much of it, but the NFL found it worthy of a fine and ordered Travis Kelce to pay $11,255 before the Super Bowl.
While the NFL found Kelce’s taunting not suitable for the game, they missed a bigger infringement moments later.
After having his fill, the 35-year-old Kelce began to back off, but Bills’ defensive tackle, Jordan Phillips, charged in and smacked into him. Kelce was seen going backward because of the force of Phillips’ shove. Phillips did not receive any monetary penalties.

This was Kelce’s second fine. Following a botched hoop in a milestone game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in week 17, the league fined Kelce $14,069. Tony Gonzalez offered to pay for him because Kelce broke his receiving touchdown record.
Travis Kelce needs to ignore the fine and focus on the Super Bowl
Fines will come and go, but Super Bowls aren’t an everyday occurrence. Many legendary players have tried and failed to win the most coveted prize in football. It will be Kelce’s fifth attempt, his possible fourth silverware, but more importantly, a chance to record a three-peat.
Kelce cares more about winning the game than achieving three back-to-back Super Bowls.
The excitement is undeniable there for Kelce. Despite winning three in the past, it’s still an unchartered territory for him.
Kelce experienced a down year compared to 2023. He finished the year with 97 catches for 823 yards and just 3 touchdowns, which is nine fewer than in 2022. In the two postseason games, Kelce caught 9 passes for 136 yards and scored one touchdown.
