Travis Kelce waited for Bo Nix on Christmas Day. Kelce wanted to congratulate the Denver Broncos quarterback for leading his team to a memorable victory against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Nix has played well in his second year with the Broncos, and it was reflected in his numbers this past week. He threw 26 completions for 182 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, and further added 42 yards and one touchdown on 9 carries.
Meanwhile, Kelce came into the game on the back of a six-yard performance in Tennessee. He knew he had to take charge, stepping up to lead in Patrick Mahomes‘ absence.
Opportunities were rare and hard to come by. Kelce’s stats went up, but they were still nowhere near what fans usually expect from the star tight end. He finished with 5 catches on 6 targets for 36 yards.
The Broncos won 20-13 and improved to 13-3 (first since the 2013 season). After the game, Kelce stuck around to congratulate the Broncos quarterback for the win.
You’re a hell of a competitor, man. You already know. Love playing against you. Do your thing, baby, alright? Go get you one, man.

The day was emotional for Kelce, who could retire at the end of the season. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Kelce will decide his future during the offseason.
[It’s] certainly a possibility that Travis Kelce played his last game at Arrowhead this past week. He’s gonna take some time after the season is over to consider his fate and see what he wants to do, whether or not he wants to play a 14th season.

For now, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid has confirmed that the three-time Super Bowl winner will play against the Las Vegas Raiders in the final week of the season.

Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos are focusing on winning the big one
Kelce’s retirement shouldn’t be a concern for the Raiders; in fact, they should be thrilled to see the Chiefs lose such a key asset, recently surpassing Hall of Famer Reggie Wayne to claim ninth place for most receptions in NFL history.

As for the Broncos, they clinched the AFC West crown from the Chiefs with that victory. However, head coach Sean Payton isn’t satisfied. As a matter of fact, he didn’t even discuss it in the locker room.
We actually didn’t even talk about it. I don’t know if that’s something I should’ve or admitted. I haven’t seen the hats or the shirts. My understanding is they’re pretty ugly. We just didn’t really talk about it. The focus was on this week’s game and the Chargers and ramifications.

Broncos clinched first AFC West title during minibye. Sean Payton on how first Division title in 10 years was acknowledged during team meeting Monday:

The Broncos end the season by playing the 11-5 Los Angeles Chargers at Mile High. Denver is the clear favorite to win, with the Chargers planning to rest their starters, including quarterback Justin Herbert, now that their playoff spot is locked in.

Regardless, this outcome of the game can shape the Broncos’ playoff future. A win for them and a defeat for the 13-3 New England Patriots would guarantee them as the AFC number one seed.
