Travis Kelce once crowned himself the best TE in NFL over Rob Gronkowski despite not having Super Bowl ring to his name
Travis Kelce finished the 2018 season with 1,336 yards and 10 touchdowns as opposed to Rob Gronkowski's 682 yards and 3 touchdowns.

There is a massive argument today that Travis Kelce could retire as the greatest tight end of all time over the likes of Rob Gronkowski. With three NFL Championships and more ahead, the tight end has established himself as an epitome of consistency and reliability.
However, this was not always the case. Travis Kelce was good, but before Patrick Mahomes became the starting quarterback of the Kansas City Chiefs, he only had two 1,000-yard seasons. Kelce had not won a playoff game till 2018, but his game was up there.
He appeared on The Dan Patrick Show and was asked by the journalist whom he believed the best tight end in the NFL was and without hesitation, he named himself.
“Travis Kelce, myself. Personally, I take that and try and make that a definitive answer every single year. I know I’ve been up in question with Gronk the past couple of years and that’s very deserving for Gronk, Gronk’s a hell of a player but this year I’m always trying to one-up and take it to the next level.”
He spoke greatness into reality and while there was no doubt about his potential, all Kelce lacked was a quarterback that could take him to the Super Bowl which he wound up getting in Patrick Mahomes.
Travis Kelce has revolutionized the tight end position
For years, the TE position has been synonymous with big guys great at blocking and can catch a pass or two. However, it has continued to evolve since Shannon Sharpe, Tony Gonzalez, and Antonio Gates began to revolutionize it. Rob Gronkowski separated himself as an anomaly with his combination of speed and strength which sparked more debate on who the greatest tight end ever is.

Then came Travis Kelce who was different. His consistency began to put him in a class of his own. Unlike Gronkowski, he was able to stay healthy and perform well regularly. He is in a league of his own as a route runner on short and intermediate routes, making him a versatile threat on the field. Despite teams knowing where Mahomes will throw the ball to, Kelce continues to dominate.
The scary part is that he still has a lot more left in the tank and he is just two Super Bowls shy of overtaking Rob Gronkowski in terms of rings. Kelce made this statement in 2018 and that year, he played better than Gronk but in his defense, the-then Patriots tight end played in just 13 games as opposed to Kelce’s 18. Since then, even Robbie G has acknowledged that Kelce is the better tight end.
