Travis Kelce and his love for laterals is nothing new. Last season, the Chiefs tight end nearly pulled off the best trick play of the season after he threw a lateral to Kadarius Toney, resulting in a game-winning touchdown with under 1:12 to go in regulation against the Buffalo Bills. Alas, that play wound up being flagged and did not count.

Travis Kelce redeemed himself on Friday after he threw a perfect lateral pass to Samaje Perine on a 3rd & 10 play. The play came early on in the Week 13 game with under four minutes to go in the first half.

While Kelce’s lateral to Perine did not result in a touchdown, it got the team out of a fourth-down situation where they probably would have punted the ball and given up possession. On the subsequent plays, Patrick Mahomes connected on a six-yard play with Justin Watson to give Kansas City a 10-3 lead.

The perfect ending to the play was a glimpse of Taylor Swift‘s reaction to the lateral throw. The tight end’s girlfriend cheerfully clapped before imitating the signal for a first down by pointing her fingers to the right with both her hands and turning her head.

To her credit, that was one smooth signal. She must have been practicing this one for some time!

For Travis Kelce and the Chiefs, this marks the second lateral play of the season wherein the tight end threw the ball to Samaje Perine. While fans think that these plays are improvised by the player, HC Andy Reid confirmed the last time that the team designed these plays and calls for them specifically. The Chiefs run this play regularly during their practice sessions.

The Chiefs improved to 11-1 after a narrow 2-point win against the Las Vegas Raiders. Patrick Mahomes threw for 306 yards and 1 touchdown with Kicker Matthew Wright putting up the remaining 13 points.

The Las Vegas Raiders nearly beat Mahomes & Co. yet again as the quarterback threw for 340 yards and 2 touchdowns, but the home team had the last laugh, as has been the case for KC this year.
