The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, went down with a brutal injury during the Chiefs’ Week 15 encounter against the Los Angeles Chargers. The three-time Super Bowl champion is set to miss the remainder of the season and is probable to return for next season’s Week 1.
Patrick Mahomes had surgery just 24 hours after suffering the injury, undergoing a procedure Monday in Dallas to repair torn ACL and LCL ligaments under the supervision of Dr. Dan Cooper. Kansas’ vice president of sports medicine, Rick Burkholder, confirmed that Mahomes has since begun his rehabilitation process with a recovery time set at nine months.
The Week 15 loss at the hands of their divisional rivals also marked the end of their campaign this season. The Kansas City Chiefs were eliminated from playoff contention and will miss their first postseason in a decade. As the Chiefs stand at a moment when their dynasty faces its first heat, Mahomes’ teammate and trusted tight end, Travis Kelce, expressed confidence in the quarterback’s resilience, saying he would fight through the setback and return stronger in his comeback season.
He’s a warrior in football. He’ll make sure to come back stronger than ever. Hopefully, the Chiefs can get him back as soon as possible.

Kelce also reflected on the moments of the injury and admitted that it was strange to see Patrick Mahomes go down. He also touched on their 2025 season. Kelce claimed that the Chiefs were really close in the games that they lost. He added that they lacked the skillset to get them across the line in those close-contested games.
The Tennessee Titans have options heading into the Week 16 Chiefs game with no Patrick Mahomes
The Tennessee Titans play the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 16 at their home ground in Nashville. The Titans’ first overall pick experiment with Cameron Ward didn’t pan out as they had thought. The Titans are dead last in the AFC South with just two wins so far from fourteen games. Their two wins came against the Arizona Cardinals and the Cleveland Browns.

They are the second-worst team in the AFC, just above the New York Giants. Heading into Week 16, they have options. Ahead of Mahomes’ injury, the Titans stood no chance against the mighty Chiefs and their offensive unit centered around the three-time winning quarterback. In the absence of Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs are forced to play Gardner Minshew II, who’s nowhere near him. Minshew hasn’t represented a single team for more than two years, starting 46 times for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Philadelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts, Las Vegas Raiders, and now the Chiefs across seven seasons in the NFL.
A win is possible for the Titans. Despite Cam Ward not blowing up like Jayden Daniels in his rookie season, Ward has shown signs of development. He has consistently gotten better and fits the Titans’ rebuild plans perfectly. The Titans need a coach after firing Brian Callahan mid-season and a stronger offensive line heading into the new season next year.
This is where the Titans might have a dilemma. They can lose the next three games, tank the season, and get a higher draft position and place themselves in the perfect spot with no rival to pick up their primary choice. They can also leverage their first overall pick to swap with teams with urgent requirements in prime skill positions and maybe earn some additional draft picks. However, a win against the Chiefs is no small feat. Mahomes or no Mahomes, the Titans, who have been paltry for years now, will have their fans cheer and joy.
