Travis Kelce dropped a crucial catch in the fourth quarter for the Kansas City Chiefs as they attempted a late comeback against the Houston Texans. That drop proved costly for the Chiefs as it turned into an interception for the Texans.

On 2nd & 10 from inside his own half, quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw an accurate pass to his veteran teammate near the halfway mark. The ball hit Kelce’s palms and looped up into the air before safely landing in Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair‘s possession.

It was the Chiefs’ third turnover and Mahomes’ third interception. A dejected Kelce sat down in his quarters inside the Chiefs’ dugout and stared down the Arrowhead turf with a blank face.

According to Scott Kacsmar of PFWA, this marked Travis Kelce’s eighth drop in 13 games and his third drop that turned into an interception.

The Chiefs lost 20-10 to the Texans and dropped to 6-7. Kelce finished with just 1 catch for 8 yards across four quarters.

Travis Kelce’s rough night in front of his fiancee ends in misery

Kelce returned to play for the Kansas City Chiefs for a 13th season in an effort to rectify the mistakes of 2024. The 36-year-old had a decent number through the first 12 games. In fact, he led the Chiefs’ receivers in nearly every category.

That being said, Kelce has been exposed a lot this year. The 8 drops are a sign that the pressure has gotten to him recently. A 6-6 record was unfamiliar ground for the incredibly successful, first-ballot Hall of Famer. This weighed on him, even though he claimed the Chiefs were just a few plays away from making it to the Super Bowl again.

The Chiefs are 6-7 following the Week 14 defeat and are eliminated from winning the AFC West for the first time since Mahomes assumed his QB1 duty. As for Kelce, he may crack the 900 receiving yard column but might miss out on a fourth ring.

Kelce currently has 60 receptions for 727 yards and 5 touchdowns. His fiancee, Taylor Swift, and her best friend, Selena Gomez, were in attendance along with Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio.

Kelce and Swift got engaged earlier this year and could get married on June 13, 2026. The best gift that Kelce can give Swift right now is qualifying for the playoffs.
