Philadelphia Phillies loses series finale to Oakland Athletics before heading into the 2024 MLB All-Star break. Shortstop Trea Turner later commented on the team’s disastrous 18-3 defeat as they lost face against league’s one of the worst teams.

He commented, “We just got our butts kicked today, but it was a good first half.” Athletics’ Lawrence Butler hit three HRs, securing the team’s victory at Citizens Bank Park on Sunday afternoon. A’s pitcher Joey Estes couldn’t believe their win as he exclaimed, “It’s crazy. Absolutely ridiculous.”

Trea Turner’s effort to boost the team in the first half with a solo HR went down the drain as the A’s hit back seven unanswered runs from the fourth to sixth innings. Oakland Athletics manager Mark Kotsay commented on their win,

Joey Estes pitched the winning inning for the A’s as the team celebrated their first game of the series. Prior to their latest game, the team lost to the Phillies 11-5 but rebounded on Sunday.

Phillies manager Rob Thomson comments on the team’s latest loss

Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson commented on the team’s latest loss stating that the All-Star break will be good for the players. He believes four days off will relieve the team some of their stress both mentally and physically.

Despite their loss, the Phillies still remain ahead of their rivals in their NL East division. They are currently 8.5 games ahead of the Atlanta Braves and 12.5 games against the New York Mets.

They’ve been grinding for a while now. I think everybody needs the four days off. I’ve got some time to think about this one.

The Phillies are currently leading the division by 6.5 games as per reports. Following the All-Star break, the team will face off against the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 19.
