Trent Alexander-Arnold is in top form for The Three Lions. The Liverpool right back and midfielder scored a marvelous free-kick against Finland as England won 3-1 on the night. Following the victory, the Liverpool man was also awarded the Player of the Match for his performance. However, that did not stop former Manchester United man and football pundit Roy Keane from tearing into the player.

In a brutal assessment of his defensive ability, Roy Keane stated that he couldn’t believe how poor Alexander-Arnold was. Lee Carsley deployed the Englishman at an unfamiliar left back position, raising eyebrows. Despite his marvelous free-kick, Keane did not show any mercy in his criticism of the player.

His decision making and quality of passing is fantastic, but I can’t believe how bad he is defensively. Against better teams, he’ll be punished.

Several fans however, did not agree with Keane as they pointed out how Alexander-Arnold was literally the best player in all three wins since Lee Carsley took charge of the team. England’s 3-1 win helped them clinch second spot in the group as they now have nine points from a possible 12 in four games.

Lee Carsley delighted with Trent Alexander-Arnold’s performances for England

England manager Lee Carsley recently confirmed that he isn’t the best man to take over permanently as the head coach. However, his decision to deploy Trent Alexander-Arnold at left back paid off as the Englishman grabbed a goal while also being named as the Player of the Match for the evening. Following the game, Carsley was full of praise for his player as clips emerged of the manager with a wide smile alongside Alexander-Arnold at full-time.

I think Trent’s qualities speak for itself. He’s more than earned his place in the team. As long as he’s effective (at LB, RB, etc), he’s great to have.

Lee Carsley told the press

As for him continuing as England manager, the 50-year-old stated that The Three Lions require a world class tactician and that he is still on his way to becoming one. As things stand, Carsley is set to continue for the next two games against Greece and Ireland. As per reports, the FA is yet to interview candidates for the role of manager.
