Trent Alexander-Arnold to miss England internationals with injury
Trent Alexander Arnold is set to miss the England internationals against Ireland, Belgium and Iceland. He picked up an injury in the match against Manchester City and had to be replaced by James Milner halfway through the second half. He adds on to the injury misery as Liverpool have already lost Virgil Van Dijk, Thiago and Fabinho to injuries. It looks to be seen if Jurgen Klopp used Nathaniel Phillips or Rhys Williams at right back.
England have the choice of bringing on Reece James and can also convince young Taariq Lamptey. The football association of Ghana is struggling to get him to represent them and England might not want to miss on a potential star like him. So far England will not run into problems without him but Liverpool doesn’t have the same fate.
Selection headache
He is the prime creative area of Liverpool as he has 25 assists over the last two seasons. Replacing him is a tall order as his marauding runs and ease at whipping crosses will definitely be missed. Jurgen Klopp however has options of slotting in a substitution there. He could allow the versatile James Milner there as Milner has proved to be a player who can play in all positions, except as goalkeeper. Klopp can also opt for Rhys Williams or Nathaniel Philipps partnering Fabinho as Joe Gomez can go back to his favoured position.
The other most logical option would be to partner Fabinho and Joel Matip at centre-back and Joe Gomez as right back. This would allow Liverpool’s strongest defenders after Virgil Van Dijk to play on the field and build chemistry. Their next match is Leicester and they’ll need to be at their strongest against Jamie Vardy and co.
Klopp has a headache as he has to get the team correct. Only after Trent has his scans done will the extent of injury be done.
