Ex-New Zealand speedster Trent Boult’s bizarre run-out, during his side MI New York’s MLC encounter against Texas Super Kings has left fans in splits. The 35-year-old left arm pacer lost his wicket in the 17th over of the match, as he saw his side lose the match by three runs.
Batting first, Texas Super Kings posted a decent first innings total of 185 runs, courtesy of half-centuries by Devon Conway and Calvin Savage. Conwoy scored a 65-run knock off 44 deliveries, while Savage remained unbeaten on 53 off 34 balls. MINY lost the match, as they could only put on 182 on the board, falling just 3 runs short. Monank Patel was the only player who crossed the 50-run mark for MINY.
MINY were comfortably cruising to a win in their first MLC game of the season, with Patel and Michael Bracewell at the crease. The two batters stitched an impressive 97-run partnership off 48 deliveries for the fourth wicket. Veteran West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard then took on TSK’s Daryl Mitchell in the 17th over over, smashing the Kiwi for 18 runs in the that over, before it all turned chaotic.

Three run-outs followed between the 17th and 19th overs, turning the match in favor of TSK. Batting on 32, Pollard was the first to get dismissed, after Mitchell’s full-length ball struck the Caribbean star on his pads, and he was seen casually jogging towards the other end of the pitch. Mitchell promptly fielded the ball and precisely hit the stumps at the non-striker’s end to send Pollard back to the pavilion.
Monank Patel was dismissed next, being run out off the next delivery in an identical manner. The team’s shoddy running between the wickets reached a peak, when Trent Boult was run out in the 19th over, in a surprising manner. With 16 runs needed off the last ten balls, Tajinder Dhillon played Adam Milne‘s ball towards third man and immediately called for a single, which he and Boult completed successfully.
While the ball had already been picked up by Mohammad Mohsin, Boult called for a second run. As the throw came in, a comical mix-up unfolded between the two batters. The Kiwi star confusingly dropped his bat while returning to the crease on his first attempt.
Shockingly, he then tried for the second run again, this time without his bat. However, Dhillon hesitated, causing Boult to slip and fall near the crease, before he was run out by keeper Devon Conway.
This is gold 😂

MINY’s sloppy running resulted in the team losing the match by three runs. Trent Boult, apart from his bizarre run-out, also had an ordinary day with the ball. The 35-year-old pacer returned with below average figures of 0/33 in his four-over spell, at an economy rate of 8.2.
Los Angeles Knight Riders aim to secure winning start to MLC season against high-flying San Francisco Unicorns
Yet to begin their 2025 MLC campaign, Los Angeles Knight Riders will be hoping to secure a winning start with a victory against in-form San Francisco Unicorns. The Sunil Narine-led side will be playing at the Oakland Coliseum in California.

Knight Riders is the only franchise to have never made it to the MLC playoffs. This season, LAKR will be hoping to turn their fortunes around. Their team features several talented American and overseas stars, including Nitish Kumar, Unmukt Chand, Ali Khan, skipper Narine, Alex Hales, Sherfane Rutherford, Rovman Powell, Andre Russell, Jason Holder, Spencer Johnson and Anrich Nortje.
However, they will be up against in-form Unicorns, who won their season opener against Washington Freedom by a huge margin of 123 runs. Built on a strong West Indian core, Los Angeles Knight Riders will be hoping to start their season on a high.
