Fireworks. Resolutions. A New Beginning. A New Year is a chance to turn a new leaf, to start afresh on a clean slate. It’s a gift and an opportunity, and it comes in different forms. For Trevon Diggs, it came in form of a new address.

The Dallas Cowboys released him on December 30, 2025, after six seasons with the franchise. Diggs didn’t have to spend more than a day on waivers. The Green Bay Packers swooped in like a peregrine falcon diving to hunt their prey in mid-air. In need of additional support in defense with their star DE, Micah Parsons, sidelined, the Packers picked up Diggs as a free agent the very next day.

The 27-year-old cornerback has already debuted for them, playing against the Minnesota Vikings in the final weekend of the regular season. The Packers had clinched a berth, and they rested most of their starters against the Vikings, including quarterback Jordan Love. Diggs had a decent time in the field and played nearly half of the defensive snaps that day.

The Green Bay Packers aren’t the strongest team in the postseason. They entered the postseason as the seventh seed in the NFC with nine wins and a tie. Nonetheless, as far as Diggs is concerned, he’s a part of a postseason journey, something he wouldn’t have thought as a possibility three weeks ago.

And he’s quite happy and grateful about the said possibility of playing the postseason this year. Diggs said:

It’s a blessing. It’s hard to win in this league and it’s hard to go to the playoffs, so just being here, being able to go to the playoffs, it’s been truly a blessing and I’m truly thankful.

With Parsons sidelined with an anterior cruciate ligament injury during a game against the Denver Broncos, Diggs provides an experienced boost to the weakened defense. If one needs an anecdote to jog their memories, this Alabama alum led the league in interceptions in 2021.

To his advantage, he has already formed a camaraderie with the Packers’ safeties in the short time they have trained together. And it hasn’t gone unnoticed either. The quick transition has earned praise and consideration from the Packers’ defensive coordinator, Jeff Hafley.

Hafley admitted, “It’s cool to see the last couple of days how he’s integrated with our players, how he’s been in meetings.” He has the confidence that Diggs would fit right in their schemes and hinted that Diggs may feature in this week’s game against their fierce rivals.

Additionally, Diggs said he feels at ease with whatever role he’s given on Saturday. He further noted that he’s prepared for anything that comes his way.

I’m very comfortable. I’m ready for whatever.

Trevon Diggs and Brian Schottenheimer had a Christmas Day rift

More details surrounding Trevon Diggs’ waiver by the Dallas Cowboys have come to light. The new juicy reports revealed that there was a rift between the cornerback and head coach Brian Schottenheimer just days before his release. The Cowboys would get the rose every time if the Bachelor were a dramatic season.

According to multiple reports, Diggs and the organization apparently had an escalation following a Christmas Day incident tied to the team’s travel plans.

NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that while the Cowboys were in Maryland for their Christmas Day matchup against the Washington Commanders, Diggs asked for permission to remain in the area to spend the holiday with his family, who live nearby. Schottenheimer reportedly denied the request. Diggs then suggested he would return to Dallas on his own after the team flight landed, but that proposal was also rejected.

Further reporting from Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram indicated that Diggs made the request after Dallas’ 30–23 win and subsequently refused to board the team plane. He chose to stay behind in Maryland. Schottenheimer had previously stated there was a multitude of reasons, however, whether this was one of them is yet to be confirmed. The Cowboys haven’t commented on the recent revelations yet.

Diggs appeared in just eight games this season, recording 25 combined tackles without an interception. Despite the down year, his career résumé remains impressive. In 66 games with Dallas, the former Alabama standout totaled 20 interceptions, 63 passes defended, two forced fumbles, and 240 tackles.

After a tumultuous season that included a home accident concussion, Diggs can now work on changing his fortunes. Before being waived, he missed eight games while dealing with persistent knee problems that followed a concussion sustained in an off-field accident in October.
