Athletes playing in the top sports leagues generally try to be at their best to earn fame, contracts, and respect. On the other hand, Carolina Panthers safety Tre’von Moehrig made national headlines when he struck 49ers’ Jauan Jennings in their Week 12 face-off.

It seems the frustrations of the game became a bit too much for the former second round pick to handle, and he took it out by punching the San Francisco 49ers wideout in the groin area.

Despite his protests, officials did not do anything, as they did not see what was going on. When he saw that his pleas were falling on deaf ears, Jauan Jennings took matters into his own hands and smacked Moehrig’s helmet.

As is with the NFL’s rule of review, they went through game footage to determine if either player deserves a reprimand. NFL Insider’s then revealed that the league was suspending Moehrig for his low blow.

This means he would miss the next game against the Los Angeles Rams. Knowing he can appeal, the former TCU star has done so, hoping the league would revisit its original decision.

However, the league has been taking a tough stand on such conduct and has suspended players. This time, too, they felt Tre’von Moehrig had done enough to warrant a suspension.

Fans stunned as Tre’von Moehrig gets just a 1-game suspension

The problem with this suspension is that fans believe the NFL did not reprimand Tre’von Moehrig appropriately. They believe the league let him off with a soft reprimand.

Since this was a deliberate act of violence that was not required, especially when considering the play in question, fans felt he should have been suspended for a longer duration and an additional fine. Check out examples of those reactions below:

This suspension means Tre’von Moehrig will either way lose a week’s pay off the $7.2 million he is supposed to get this year from the Carolina Panthers. But fans felt it was not enough.

Jauan Jennings could also be fined

Tre’von Moehrig will most probably lose his appeal, just like how Ja’Marr Chase lost after he was suspended for 1-game for spitting at Jalen Ramsey.

League insider Ian Rapoport shared that 49ers star Jennings, the victim in this incident, could also face a fine if the league office deems his reaction unnecessary.

The wideout smacked Moehrig on the helmet and then had to be separated by another player, similarly to how Ramsey reacted after Chase spat at him.

Since the latter did not end up getting a fine, it is likely that Jennings, too, will walk away without a reprimand. The 49ers will have a tough task when facing the stud Cleveland Browns defense coming Sunday, and will need Jennings to be on the field.
