Analysts and fans hailed Trevor Lawrence as the most promising quarterback prospect since Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck during his time at Clemson. However, even the most dedicated T-Law supporters, might need to pause and consider whether he has truly lived up to the immense hype surrounding him.
Let’s just cut to the chase. Lawrence is not a bust, but he has failed to replicate his college form that compelled the Jacksonville Jaguars to select him first overall over players such as Ja’Marr Chase, Jaylen Waddle, Jaycee Horn, Patrick Surtain II, and DeVonta Smith.
Football fans have started to question whether they will ever get the chance to see the best version of Trevor Lawrence in the NFL. The 25-year-old has a tingling sensation in his gut that 2025 could be his breakout year.
I feel like this is like getting into my prime. I have a lot of good years left ahead of me and I need to really turn it on. And I think what we’ve built around me and what they’ve done this offseason has been a great start.

After 2022, the Jags fans envisioned they would roll over the AFC South competition every year with Lawrence as their quarterback. Unfortunately, injuries and bad coaching sent the team on a downward spiral, which continued well into the 2024 season.
He won just two games all season before picking up a concussion. The Jags went on a nine-game losing streak to end the year with a 4-13 record.
Owner Omar Khan fired Doug Pederson and brought in Liam Coen, who coached Baker Mayfield at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Matthew Stafford at the Los Angeles Rams.
I really feel good about the situation we’re in. I love Coach [Liam] Coen and the whole staff and everyone, all the guys that were brought in free agency. Just good dudes, good players, too. But I really feel like we’ve done some great things this offseason.

"Year 5, it's time to go, time to start winning consistently and be not just that team that no one takes you seriously, you want to be that team that is always competing and for playoffs, Super Bowls, and you're in the hunt." pic.twitter.com/UrrCAxZrNN
The Jags boast a good core of players. Wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. caught 87 passes for 1282 yards and scored 10 touchdowns. New general manager James Gladstone traded three places in the draft to select Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, a dual-threat athlete. Running back Travis Etienne Jr. is sticking around for another year and will share snaps with Tank Bigsby in the backfield.
The offensive line is currently the biggest issue for the Jaguars. Pro Football Focus ranked them the sixth worst in the league heading into the new league season. If Coen fails to protect Lawrence, then it will be a repeat of last year.
PFF has hope for Trevor Lawrence to turn his career around
Lawrence has all the tools in his shed to succeed in the NFL. Under Pederson, he had to make all the throws, which he can, but at the same time, it’s foolish to expect he won’t make any errors.

Coen will make it easier for Lawrence to play his natural game. He was excellent in college because the Clemson playbook utilized his every strength, including the run game. Coen must adapt the same at Jacksonville. The strategy worked remarkably at Tampa Bay, with Mayfield creating a solid partnership with rookie rusher Bucky Irving.
Once again, everything comes down to Lawrence’s ability to spread the ball.
Trevor Lawrence might be the biggest wild card in this tier… His 79.7 overall grade in 2023 was a career high, and now he’ll have Brian Thomas Jr. and Travis Hunter as his top targets with Liam Coen taking over as offensive coordinator.

The schedule might help them to record a good season. Sharp Football Analysis accredited the Jags with the sixth-easiest schedule for the 2025 season. Lawrence will kick off his fifth NFL year against Bryce Young’s Carolina Panthers in week one.
