Since entering the NFL as the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Trevor Lawrence has won 20 and lost 30 games in the regular season. And the one year he led the Jacksonville Jaguars to the playoffs, they crashed out in the divisional playoff.

Despite the underwhelming record, the Jaguars decided to make Lawrence the highest-paid quarterback in the league earlier this month. Although the 24-year-old remained adamant that the number of zeroes in the contract would not put much pressure, Lawrence claimed that he would use the experience to his benefit.

I think that experience is probably the best teacher. Everyone says the big thing is the ‘whys’ learned from other people’s mistakes. I do think that’s true. But I also think there are some things you just kind of have to go through. And you learn a lot when you experience them.

Lawrence’s first year in Florida did not go according to plan. He has been touted as a generational talent and judging by the Jaguars’ intentions; they believe the Clemson graduate will be their franchise quarterback for years to come.

Lawrence showed signs of improvement in the second season, reaching the playoffs. Analysts predicted 2023 would be his breakout season and through the first 10 games he looked the part.

However, a high ankle injury on week 13 affected his performance. Even though it was better for him to take a few game days off for rehab, Lawrence continued and eventually ended with a 9-8 season but missed out on the playoffs despite finishing second in the AFC South.

The NFL is just different. It’s a long season; it really is about who’s playing best in December, January, February, not September, October, November. You have to be playing your best at the right time, the end of the year.
Trevor Lawrence said

Stat Muse reported that Lawrence played a total of 22 games in November and December. In November he won only 3 and lost 9 while in December he has a 5-5 record.

In contrast, Patrick Mahomes, who is arguably the best quarterback in the league, played 26 overall games in December, winning 22 times and 17 wins from 20 in November. If Lawrence aims to be part of the elite category of quarterbacks, then he needs to have more clutch moments at the business end of an NFL season.
