Travis Hunter, drafted second overall in the NFL Spring Draft, is one of the many players whom the fans are eagerly awaiting to watch this season. The dual-position star is projected to define a new age of athletes in the league, with offensive and defensive skills.
Ahead of the season start, the rookie has received praise from the quarterback, Trevor Lawrence. Recently, in a press conference, Lawrence claimed that it has been impressive to see the young star perform well in both sides of the play throughout the spring and the summer.
“Yeah, just to see the amount of work you have to put in to do that, it’s hard enough to play one way in the NFL, much less two ways. To learn offense, defense, it’s a lot. He’s done a really good job,” Lawrence said.
Lawrence pointed out that Hunter has excelled at understanding his assignments at both positions, even while still learning the nuances of the league as a rookie. He also admitted to helping the rookie with little remainders or different things with diverse aspects, so that he doesn’t feel like he’s on his own.
There’s immense pressure on the rookie’s side. There’s the weight of the spotlight as well as the fact that he needs to prove himself and his words. If anyone knows what it is to be under media scrutiny, it would be Trevor Lawrence.
Hunter, Lawrence, and the Jaguars start the 2025 season against the Carolina Panthers on Sept. 7.
Jacksonville Jaguars GM also impressed by Travis Hunter
At a recent press conference, Jaguars head coach James Gladstone confirmed that rookie standout Hunter is expected to be available at home for the season opener against the Panthers.

When asked if the first-year player might be sidelined, Gladstone quickly dismissed the concern. He noted that Hunter was well and attended practices. He went on to praise Hunter’s impact, noting that his versatility has already given Jacksonville a unique edge.
The general manager claimed that the fact that the opponents won’t be able to know from which side Hunter will be attacking or defending.
“There’s a competitive advantage to not knowing what side of the ball he’s going to be deployed on fully—if that’s half, if that’s a mixture, all those sorts of things can vary from one week to the next. And I think the fact that that exists is certainly a hand that we’ll keep close,” Gladstone explained.
Gladstone has previously referred to Hunter as a “generational talent” capable of reshaping the football landscape. As the season opener approaches, Jacksonville fans may soon see firsthand whether Hunter’s early promise translates into game-changing production on the field.
The Jacksonville Jaguars look to bounce back under Liam Coen
It is not just Travis Hunter or Trevor Lawrence who are under the spotlight, but also the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jaguars have one of the worst winning percentages among the existing NFL teams. They have only made it to the playoffs twice in the last decade.
In order to change their fortunes, the Jaguars have brought Liam Coen as their head coach this year. Coen has added some much-needed energy to the locker room. Lawrence had recently spoken highly of Coen and the change in the culture at Jacksonville.
“And they brought a lot of energy every day, and coached us hard, and expectations have been really high, which has been good for our team. I think we’ve grown a lot,” Lawrence said.
He also indirectly praised James Gladstone, noting that the team brought in legitimate contenders this offseason who showcased exceptional leadeership skills in addition to their on-field talents.
