The football season is done which means for the next 200 days, the NFL rumor mill is about to be operating at full power. Last week, a rumor surfaced suggesting that the Pittsburgh Steelers were interested in trading for Trevor Lawrence.

The news was shocking and made no sense because Trevor Lawrence signed a five-year, $275 million contract before the 2024-25 season to stay in Jacksonville. However, the rumor quickly gained traction but both teams, the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Pittsburgh Steelers were quick to shoot these reports down.

Trevor Lawrence addressed the rumor during his interview with Kay Adams on Monday. The quarterback made it clear that he intends to stay in Jacksonville for the foreseeable future.

“That’s funny, I didn’t really see anything. My agent texted me and was like, ‘Hey this is a report that’s out there. I don’t think there’s anything to it, but I’ll check into it.’ But I saw it, and it’s funny though, when he sent it to me, I wouldn’t say your heart drops, but you’re kind of like, ‘What?’

Trevor Lawrence said

It is not wrong to blame Lawrence. The NFL is a business and unpredictability lies at its heart. Tomorrow is not guaranteed, especially when your team’s Head Coach and GM have been recently fired.

Trevor Lawrence has a no-trade clause in his contract

Shahid Khan had vouched for former HC and GM, Doug Pederson and Trent Baalke respectively halfway through the 2024-25 season. However, he wasted no time in firing them after the team’s season ended disastrously. The quarterback was unable to play through the entire season after a dirty hit resulted in him suffering a concussion. Fortunately, for Trevor Lawrence, his value as the team’s franchise quarterback is much higher.

Even if Shahid Khan wanted to get rid of him, he would not be able to, at least not without the quarterback knowing about it beforehand. This is because of the no-trade clause in his contract. Lawrence intends to stay in Jacksonville and win a Super Bowl here.

I’m happy here in Jacksonville. I plan on – we want to win a Super Bowl here, and I think we can do that. And I don’t want to leave Jacksonville. So, I’m happy here, obviously. I’m not going to Pittsburgh.

Trevor Lawrence clarified

For now, the Jaguars will refrain from making blockbuster trades until they can find a replacement for Trent Baalke.

Lawrence’s agent had to reach out to ESPN’s Adam Schefter to verify if the rumor of him going to Pittsburgh had any merit to it because the team has no GM. Jacksonville’s new HC Liam Coen reached out to his quarterback and assured him that the team was not moving on from him.

“I shouldn’t even have to say this, but that’s not coming from us,” Coen said as narrated by Lawrence. The quarterback has set some ambitious goals for himself in Jacksonville.

The Jaguars have never made it to a Super Bowl. The team has eight playoff appearances but 0 championship luck. Lawrence intends to turn things around for the franchise and create history. However, for him to successfully do that, the team will need to surround him with competent pieces that can help him. The Jaguars’ fate will depend on whom they choose to appoint as their next General Manager.
