The way Trevor Lawrence has started the 2024 season begs the question: Were the pre-season wins a fluke? That’s because the Jacksonville Jaguars won all three practice games, with Lawrence taking the majority of the snaps in two of them.

The Jaguars were confident enough to pay him more than $50 million a year, but since then the Clemson graduate has been on a downward spiral. He hasn’t won a game as the starter, dating back to December 4.

Their only win in between was against the Carolina Panthers, in which CJ Beathard deputized in place of Lawrence.

A reset was in order in the new season, but the Jags can’t seem to escape pits of despair. So far, in three games (Dolphins, Browns, and Bills), the Jags’ defense has let in a combined 85 points while the Lawrence-led offense only scored 40. Doug Pederson’s team is one of the three this season with a 0-3 record (Bengals, Browns, and Titans being the other three).

A video from the Bills drubbing surfaced on social media in which the uploader claimed Trevor Lawrence directed his frustration at Pederson on the sidelines.

Trevor Lawrence took responsibility for the Jaguars poor start to the 2024 NFL season

The 24-year-old completed his second-lowest passing yards (178) and worst completion rate (55.3%) of the season in the Bills defeat. He currently has the 25th-worst (43.1) quarterback rating in the league after three games.

After the game, Lawrence took responsibility for his poor performance. He promised to fix the situation from the next game.

The game the other night was just a disaster on pretty much every level. But we still have the confidence in our group, our coaches, and our team. That’s not going to change; that’s not going to change.

The Jaguars’ next game is against AFC South rivals—the Houston Texans, who got thumped 7-34 at home by the Minnesota Vikings. Historically, the Jaguars have a horrible record against their divisional neighbors, losing 29 and winning just 15. In fact, they have the second most losses against the Texans (only behind the Tennessee Titans with 35).

Coincidentally, Lawrence’s first-ever game in the NFL was a loss to the Texans in September 2021. He has played six games against the Texans, winning just two.

One of those two was the last time he won an NFL game before his losing streak began. Lawrence threw 364 yards through the air, one touchdown, and one interception with a quarterback rating of 90.2.
