In Short
  • Jerry Jones declined to trade two first-round picks for Maxx Crosby, prompting a shift in focus to Trey Hendrickson.
  • Analysts believe acquiring Hendrickson would allow the Cowboys to retain their draft picks and improve their defensive line.
  • Maxx Crosby remains a sought-after player, with other teams, including the Eagles, expressing interest in him.

Entering this offseason, Jerry Jones knew he had to upgrade his pass rush. With the likes of Trey Hendrickson and Maxx Crosby available via trade, Cowboys fans were excited.

Rich Eisen supported the idea of the franchise going after the latter of the two sack artists, noting that his hardworking style and competitive drive will bode well for a team that has been questioned on those two aspects year-in and year-out.

Having a veteran, who is at the top of his game, come in and set the tone would be a good idea, as players could rethink their partying habits knowing one of their better teammates stays focused.

However, it is also not a secret that the Las Vegas Raiders would command a premium for their best player. Now, the asking price has seemingly become too much of a problem for Jones.

On Maxx Crosby and the Cowboys being at play here….here is what I’m being told from a team source. “Raiders are talking to a lot of people. But we would not give up two first-rounders.” That’s the situation now. Will that change? I don’t know, but I checked for those of you interested.

Jane Slater revealed

Once the NFL Network insider revealed this, her colleague over at 103.5 The FAN, Trey Wingo, added that Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys are now pivoting towards Trey Hendrickson.

Where Rich Eisen suggested using just the 12th overall pick to land Crosby, it is evident the Raiders’ demands of two firsts were too much for the billionaire owner to sanction.

Trey Hendrickson makes sense for Jerry Jones’ Cowboys, says analyst

When news about Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys’ reported pivot towards Trey Hendrickson gathered steam, Peter Schrager appeared on The Pat McAfee Show, and they asked his opinion about this.

I think Dallas does make a lot of sense. I know he is on the other side of 30. But they have the 12th and 20th pick, where they can get younger, and they are looking at adding assets.

Peter Schrager said

The analyst pointed out how this move would make sense for America’s team in a plethora of ways. On one hand, they get to keep the two first-round picks the Raiders wanted for Maxx Crosby.

With that, they can draft Trevon Diggs‘ replacement at cornerback and also draft a young pass rusher. Now, with Trey Hendrickson playing on the opposite side, not only will the rookie learn from one of the best in the business, but the entire defensive line should improve.

Schrager and host Pat McAfee agreed that the 31-year-old Florida native might be seeking his best paycheck, which could deter Jerry Jones, who has always shown he wants to be stingy. However, this union is too good to pass up.

Lane Johnson tries to recruit Maxx Crosby to Eagles

Even though the Dallas Cowboys exited the Maxx Crosby sweepstakes, the latter’s market is still open with a few teams reportedly making calls to the Raiders’ front office. After all, the 28-year-old has not only been durable but also is a team-first athlete who should change the locker room vibes for the better anywhere he goes.

That is why Philadelphia Eagles’ star right tackle, Lane Johnson, posted a tweet with just the ‘eyes’ emoticon, tagging Crosby along with it.

It seems he was just trying to let his fellow football compatriot know that he can have a look at the Eagles. Even though it would be a long shot for the Super Bowl LIX champions, there is no harm in getting a feeler out to a player who can upgrade their defensive line.
