Trey Smith’s job is to keep the opposing defenders away from the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes. He won two Super Bowls doing it alongside the center Creed Humphrey.
As the Chiefs gear up for their title defense and possibly secure the three-peat, Smith reminded everyone that they are ready and hungry. Smith disclosed that his teammates already deleted February’s celebration of lifting the Lombardi from their memory because they aim to repeat it in the 2024 season as well.
While speaking with Aaron Ladd of KSHB41, Trey Smith said it’s a new season with new challenges.
Winning the Super Bowl last year…no one cares about that. It’s a completely new season. We have to prove ourselves week-in and week-out.Trey Smith said
Smith played all 17 games, 1086 snaps, last season and only allowed 2 sacks on Patrick Mahomes. Pro Football Network graded him a 72.2 overall score for his last year’s performance.

Smith accompanied Mahomes, Humphrey, and Travis Kelce to the White House with the Lombardi Trophy. The 25-year-old was also part of the three-man bandwagon that attended WrestleMania, where he stood up against wrestler Braun Strowman.
Trey Smith is in line for a contract extension
It was a busy summer for the Chiefs’ General Manager Brett Veach, who made several changes to the roster. The Chiefs lost players like L’Jarius Sneed, Kadarius Toney, and Louis Rees-Zammit. Veach brought back former Chiefs WR Juju Smith-Schuster as cover for injured Hollywood Brown, defensive end Cam Thomas for the Arizona Cardinals, quarterback Bailey Zappe from the New England Patriots, running back Samaje Perine, and tight end Peyton Hendershot from the Dallas Cowboys.
Veach also extended the contracts of star kicker Harrison Butker and made Creed Humphrey the highest-paid center in the NFL. This leaves Trey Smith and linebacker Nick Bolton, whose contracts end after this season.
After locking in the 53-man roster, Brett Veach spoke with the media about new deals.
We've been in conversations with Trey [Smith] and we still have some time here. We'll get a chance to talk to both Trey's people and Nick's people…It does take time and does drag out.Brett Veach said as per Arrowhead Addict
