“Triple C to the rescue,” Henry Cejudo offers to be replacement in Alexander Volkanovski fight after Max Holloway pullout of UFC 272
Alexander Volkanovski- Henry Cejudo
In the midst of no chance, Henry Cejudo finally got some. To the world’s surprise, the trilogy booked between former UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway and current champion Alexander Volkanovksi at UFC 272 got cancelled as soon as it was announced very recently that Holloway has pulled out of the fight due to his injury. This was the fight the fans were most looking forward to in the first quarter of 2022.
However, this opened the gates for a comeback fight for an MMA legend. Former two-division champion Henry Cejudo was very much lured into extending his legacy and trying to become the first UFC fighter to have won championships at 3 different weight classes, which would also assure him to be in the conversation of one of the greatest of all time. Since Volkanovski’s last title defence at UFC 266 in September of 2021, Cejudo has been calling out for a fight between him and Volkanovski.
Henry Cejudo tags UFC President Dana White to call him for the Volkanovski fight
Now that Holloway is out of the Volkanovski UFC 272 which was supposed to happen in March at UFC 272 in Las Vegas, it seemed a perfect opportunity for Cejudo to offer himself as a replacement for Holloway as Volkanovski’s opponent. Cejudo, therefore, went to Twitter, uploaded a poster of him and Volkanovski in the UFC’s fight announcement format and captioned it “Triple C to the rescue. @danawhite you have my number. [inserts 4 trophies] #C4 #bendtheknee“
It’s quite an opportunity for everyone in the top-notch talent-filled weight class of the featherweight division and Henry Cejudo is not the only one on the run. It seems like “The Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung is the frontrunner. Besides that, there is Giga Chikadze who has a fight in January anyway against Calvin Kattar, then there’s Yair Rodriguez, Bryce Mitchell has shown interest too and finally, Josh Emmett is waiting on the call.
Who do you think Volkanovski is most likely to fight at the end? If it’s Cejudo, then how do you see that fight going down. It will be Cejudo’s return to the Octagon almost after 2 years and therefore will be quite a treat for the “Triple C” fans, but Volkanovski is the champion who has 2 wins over Holloway for a reason, despite originally going into the trilogy.
