Ricochet adds another title to his name, as he became the first-ever Speed Champion. He defeated Johnny Gargano in the finals of the eight-man knockout tournament with just under one minute of time left. The championship match was given 5 minutes instead of the usual 3 minutes in a normal match.
Triple H took to Instagram and sent a congratulatory message to him. He stated that people always remember the first, as they would now remember The One and Only as the first WWE Speed Champion.
The Game praised Ricochet and called him a true embodiment of ‘Speed’.
The tournament was first announced on March 27 that an eight-man knockout tournament would take place to crown the inaugural Speed Champion. Top superstars from all three brands participated in the tournament, including Ricochet, JD McDonagh, and Bronson Reed. In the first round, the 35-year-old star defeated Dragon Lee to progress to the semi-finals. Then he picked up the victory over JD McDonagh in just 1 minute and 58 seconds.
You always remember the first to ever do it. Nobody defines “speed” like Ricochet. Congratulations to kingricochet on adding another title reign to his legacy and becoming the first-ever WWESpeed Champion.Triple H on Instagram
In the championship match, both superstars tried to end the match quickly with their innovative offenses.
However, The One and Only finally caught the #DIY member with a devastating Recoil to win the title. It will be interesting to see how long he manages to hold the title.
