On January 6, 2025, WWE will officially usher in a new era. The Stamford-based promotion’s flagship show, Monday Night Raw, moves to the streaming giant, Netflix, in a historic $5 billion move. As such, the company will have to bring in several huge stars and reinforcements for the debut episode. In light of that, WWE CCO Triple H revealed that Pat McAfee is set to make his return soon.
Speaking to USA Today at yesterday’s WWE-Netflix event, Hunter confirmed McAfee would come back to resume his commentary duties on Raw. The 37-year-old personality last appeared on the August 19 episode of Raw. McAfee then left to host College GameDay as the NFL season kickstarted. Amid his absence, former Monday Night Football broadcaster Joe Tessitore debuted as a play-by-play commentator on the red brand.
McAfee, a longtime WWE fan, initially feuded with Adam Cole and the Undisputed Era in NXT. The former football punter even competed against Cole at Takeover XXX. Months later, WWE hired McAfee as a color commentator on SmackDown. McAfee’s partnership with Michael Cole received praise from many fans as he ended up wrestling then-chairman Vince McMahon at WrestleMania 38.

Since then, he has made various appearances inside the squared circle, including a surprise appearance in a Royal Rumble match. Although his previous stint on commentary was met with positive reviews, Pat McAfee‘s recent run didn’t sit well with fans. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that the WWE Universe had mixed reactions to Triple H announcing his return ahead of Raw’s debut on Netflix.

With college football nearing its season end, fans thought it made sense for Pat McAfee to return to his commentary role. McAfee will most likely resume his color commentary role alongside Michael Cole and Corey Graves on Raw.

Another user didn’t care who called the action unless Wade Barrett was on the same brand as Bronson Reed. The former Nexus leader enthusiastically screams, “Tsunami!” whenever Reed delivers the devastating maneuver. Meanwhile, some fans understood why McAfee wanted to be a part of the Netflix era, considering the magnitude of the move.

Hopefully he doesn’t come back talking in the middle of promos again

What if instead he did us all a favor and never came back?

One fan sarcastically lambasted McAfee for speaking over wrestlers while they cut promos. Furthermore, other fans had become accustomed to hearing Joe Tessitore on Monday nights and expressed concern about him being moved elsewhere.
