Vince McMahon wasn't over the moon about Triple H's way of announcing his in-ring retirement at the beginning of WrestleMania 38.

The incumbent WWE CCO Paul “Triple H” Levesque announced his in-ring retirement in 2022. He kicked off WrestleMania 38 with his swanky-yet-laid-back entrance to the adulation of the Dallas crowd at the AT&T Stadium. It was Vince McMahon‘s idea to let his son-in-law begin the proceedings, as Levesque revealed on his wife, Stephanie McMahon‘s ESPN+ series, Stephanie’s Places.

However, the 79-year-old WWE founder wasn’t expecting Hunter to go out, place his wrestling boots in the middle of that ring, and say he’s done. McMahon asked Levesque backstage why he wanted to open an event like WrestleMania with such a downer of a moment. The Game wasn’t thinking like that, and he retorted to his father-in-law, saying it was a triumphant moment for him.

The idea of going and putting my boots in the ring was not what he had in mind. Like, ‘Why do you wanna — I gotta open the show with a downer,’ and I said, I don’t see it as a downer.

Just about a few months back in September, Levesque underwent a life-saving cardiac surgery. He had viral pneumonia with inflamed lungs, and the situation just exacerbated. Consequently, the doctors had to implant an ICD in his chest. Over three years removed from that low, The Cerebral Assassin is arguably in the best space imaginable. He’s steering the creative wheel of WWE.

Moreover, his presence has fostered a relaxed backstage environment in the company, as compared to how tight things were during McMahon’s regime. The Game recently came under fire for letting go of some of the notable names like Braun Strowman and Dakota Kai from WWE. It was noted that he made the final call on who had to be axed.

When Triple H schooled a fan for badmouthing Stephanie McMahon?

In one of the recent editions of Stephanie McMahon‘s What’s Your Story podcast, she had Bianca Belair on the show. The ex-WWE chairwoman revealed a fascinating anecdote of The King of Kings from WrestleMania 34. McMahon and Levesque teamed up that night against Kurt Angle and Ronda Rousey.

The duo of former US Olympians were victorious in what was Rousey’s WWE in-ring debut. And interestingly enough, that served as McMahon’s last ever WWE match. After the in-ring action had ended, Levesque took a moment to tell his wife how proud he was of her performance. A few moments later, Vince McMahon‘s daughter saw The Game arguing with a random fan at ringside, who’d allegedly talked trash about his spouse.

McMahon was grinning from ear to ear while narrating that wonderful story. Quite recently, she was almost thrown out of MSG as McMahon and The Undertaker were pulling off a prank on The Cerebral Assassin. The 55-year-old WWE HOF’er thought they were some hecklers at first but eventually realized that his better half was just messing around at the World’s Most Famous Arena.

Joe Hendry heaps praise on Triple H for easing him up before WrestleMania 41

One of the most entertaining aspects of this year’s WrestleMania was the unexpected arrival of Joe Hendry as Randy Orton‘s surprise opponent. Even though he lost rather quickly to the vet, the TNA World Champion wasn’t pedantic about it and was instead grateful to have gotten that opportunity.

The Scot told Chris Van Vliet on Insight that Triple H took the time to have a conversation with him backstage before letting him go out for the moment of truth. Hendry believes that’s probably why he was relaxed and didn’t get overawed by the magnitude of performing in front of over 60,000 fans.

The 37-year-old was conveyed by the WWE CCO that this year’s WrestleMania wasn’t his last. It definitely entails that The Cerebral Assassin has his eyes on Hendry for future gigs as well. The latter was approached by Hunter once Orton insisted on Hendry being his handpicked foe.
