WWE CCO Triple H reveals if John Cena was hard to convince for turning heel in his retirement tour
The Game has provided some insight into how John Cena's WWE heel turn came about and whether he found it hard to convince the actor.

It’s been a month since John Cena turned heel. And for some, the dust has yet to settle. The WWE Universe had given up on the prospect of seeing their hero act like a ‘bad guy’ on television. He’s in his last few months as an active in-ring performer for WWE. All those variables were aligned perfectly for the 47-year-old to bow out like everyone’s idol.
However, a plot twist at Elimination Chamber saw The Cenation Leader align with The Rock and brutalize Cody Rhodes. But how did Triple H, the creative force behind main roster storylines, pitch Cena of doing something he hadn’t done since 2003? The Game spoke with Alex McCarthy of Daily Mail and revealed that it wasn’t hard to convince John.
In fact, the Peacemaker actor came on board with the impression of doing anything the WWE management would ask of him in the twilight of his career. Paul Levesque asserted that the Hollywood mogul was indeed a bit surprised when the company broached the possibility of Cena embracing his dark side. The 16-time World Champion told Levesque that he wasn’t expecting it but loved when they talked it over.

The WWE CCO compared pitching the heel turn to John to a movie director who shocks his lead actor by telling them to come out of their shell and play an unprecedented role. That’s how one could truly put their creativity to the test, added Levesque. The latter had previously stated that Cena will wrestle a lot in 2025, as he’s made WWE his prime commitment this year.
John Cena finally got into a heated exchange with Cody Rhodes on Raw
This week on Raw, John Cena and Cody Rhodes engaged in a much-needed war of words at the O2 arena. The Franchise Player responded to Rhodes’ plea of explaining his actions by saying that he’s going to bury The American Nightmare. John lashed out at his former chauffeur for stealing every single secret he needed to be undeniable but still remained underwhelming, quipped the wrestler-turned-actor.

John further said that seeing Cody with the WWE Championship disgusts him. And that’s why Cena needed to put the former AEW EVP in his place. The Franchise Player dished more insults, calling Rhodes a paint-by-numbers sociopathic nepo baby. When the champ got his chance to retort, he didn’t hold back either.
The Prodigal Son made a Vince McMahon reference and alluded to the fact that it was the ill-famed former WWE CEO who handpicked Cena, not the fans. Cody claimed he wasn’t afraid of holding his own on the mic against John, as the latter has always had more di*k in his promo than in his jorts.
The 39-year-old, though still looking at Cena as his hero, said he’s also a “piece of sh*t.” Before leaving, The Cenation Leader asserted that he made empires for billionaires while all Cody has ever done is steal money from their kids. It was a reference to AEW President Tony Khan.
What bothered John Cena the most in promo battle with Cody Rhodes?
Probably the most jarring insult of all that Cody Rhodes directed at his WrestleMania opponent was the one when he stated that never has a wrestling audience chanted at him that he can’t wrestle. Meanwhile, the Ricky Stanicky actor had to go through numerous hostile crowds in his illustrious career.

They would let Mr. Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect know how much they despised him at one point. After hearing that come from Rhodes, John Cena got back into the ring as if he was ready to fight. The O2 arena was already on its feet hoping for a brawl.
The WWE icon tried to sneak in a cheap shot on the Undisputed WWE Champion, but it backfired. Cody intercepted Cena and planted the latter with a Cross Rhodes. That put an end to one of the most entertaining openings to an episode of Raw.
