The Boston Red Sox are facing a huge dilemma. Their third baseman and team superstar Rafael Devers has refused to give up his position. In the midst of this drama, Triston Casas has defended his teammate and labeled him as the ‘best’ 3B in the league.

Devers signed a massive 10-year $313.5 million contract extension with the Red Sox in 2023. At that time, general manager Chaim Bloom gave him the word that the 3B position was his. However, things have changed since then.

Not only does the Red Sox have a new GM, but they also have a new face in the clubhouse. Last week the team completed the signing of 2-time MLB All-Star Alex Bregman on a 3-year $120 million deal.

Bregman has played his entire career in the MLB as the third baseman. When it comes to defensive capabilities, he edges out Devers and also has a Gold Glove for this position.

However, Devers has shown some improvement in this position. Though he led the league for the most errors among third baseman in 2024, his Outs Above Average stat showed an increase.

Casas was asked about his opinion regarding this during the Spring Training. The 1B defended Devers and claimed that he should play 3B while Bregman took the 2B position. While doing so, he even called Devers as the best third baseman in the league.

It’s Raffy Devers’ position. He’s the third baseman and at that point, that’s where it stands, and he’s done it for a really long time now and he’s only getting better at the position. I think he’s the best third baseman in the league, I wouldn’t take anybody over him. I think he should play third base.

Meanwhile, Alex Bregman has said that he is open to playing any position for the team. Manager Alex Cora pointed out that the two players had a long 45 minutes chat on the field and nothing looked awkward between them.

During the Spring Training press conference, Triston Casas was thrown a hot question. While defending his teammate Rafael Devers, he dropped a bold take on how he was the best third baseman in the league. This is something that has not sat well with the fans on social media.
