Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov may no longer compete, but his influence continues to shape the world of MMA. Though retired with a perfect 29-0 record, the Dagestani remains a towering figure in the sport, earning multiple accolades and being consistently ranked among the greatest MMA grapplers by Tapology.

While many naturally look to Nurmagomedov as a source of inspiration, Joe Rogan recently offered a rather unexpected take on his legacy. Despite stepping away from the Octagon, Nurmagomedov’s philosophies and fighting style live on through his close circle, especially former lightweight champ Islam Makhachev and rising contender, cousin Umar Nurmagomedov.

Moreover, ‘The Eagle’ is a mirror image of his father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, who is considered one of the best combat sports coaches. And with these jewels, snippets of their domination, which include the former lightweight kingpin himself, often go viral. However, in this AI-fueled content rage and age, things are hardly ever what they are. And this is something that recently tricked Joe Rogan.

On episode #168 of his JRE MMA show with Khalil Rountree Jr., Rogan drew inspiration from an inspirational clip where ‘The Eagle’ spoke of discipline being the key in life. Turns out, it was an AI-voiceover, and the UFC commentator fell for it.

Every man [is] addicted to something. Some smoke, some drink some chase girls. But real man he addicted to discipline. To early wakes to prayer to training to silence. Discipline [only] no need motivation. Discipline moves without feeling. Discipline say I go anyway, even when tired, even when lonely. Discipline is best addiction. You want strong life discipline, build it. You want peace, discipline, protect it…

Khabib Nurmagomedov’s AI-generated monologue on the ‘JRE’ MMA Show #168

Rogan has always been in awe of Nurmagomedov’s legendary career. On the JRE MMA Show #134 with Belal Muhammad, Rogan praised his unmatched grappling, especially his suffocating top control and ground dominance.

More recently, on JRE #2256 during the Protect Our Parks 13 segment, Rogan reacted to news about Nurmagomedov being removed from an airline. While the situation raised eyebrows, Rogan took the opportunity to once again highlight his legacy, calling him a true icon of the sport and a fighter worthy of the highest respect.

However, flanked by the unsuspecting Rountree Jr, both gave a shoutout to ‘The Eagle’ without understanding it’s not even his video. Nurmagomedov himself has given many such iterations about the importance of discipline, but there’s no hard source citing this as his quote.

To cap it off, Red Corner MMA, who often do interviews with Dagestani fighters, claimed this clip was AI, which took away most of the credibility. The rest, as they say, is history, and it does not bode well for Rogan.

Fight fans have a field day with Joe Rogan’s mistake related to Khabib Nurmagomedov

When it comes to Khabib Nurmagomedov and his extended MMA family, there have been occasional slip-ups and misstatements over the years. But more often than not, it’s Rogan who finds himself at the center of these commentary mix-ups, whether during UFC broadcasts or on his podcast, making him something of a lightning rod for MMA-related misinterpretations.

Rogan often gets critiqued for overtly animating how hurt a fighter really is or isn’t, and differentiated takes. Then there’s the very serious COVID-19 disparagements that made people unfollow his podcast. Now, redditors have swarmed in on him, mistaking an AI voiceover as the real Khabib Nurmagomedov. A fan (u/Rave-fiend) retorted: “This man has always been gullible, but I’m convinced he has smoked his brain to a smooth gelatinous mush.” Consequently, it isn’t the only such take on the matter.

Given how Rogan’s COVID-era takes and N-Slur controversies were bummers that almost got him media blacklisted, many have cautioned heavy vigilance. Many fans have responded that things Rogan says live have real-life repercussions. All in all, this time it wasn’t a hard-hitting mistake, but next time, it might just be.
