Troy Aikman’s opinion on Caleb Williams has changed. A year ago, the Hall of Famer showed his support for Williams after a poor start by comparing it to his rookie year.

On Monday, fans witnessed Aikman doing a complete 180 from his previous stance on the Chicago Bears quarterback. Williams was in Washington to play the Commanders, a fixture that he nearly won last season.

Moreover, Washington has had recent success in this fixture. They went more than a decade without losing to the Bears (2004-2016) and won the last two out of three meetings.

Washington went into the game as 6.5-point favorites against a Bears team that served its bye in week five.

Before that, Ben Johnson’s team had won two straight games against the Dallas Cowboys and the Las Vegas Raiders despite starting the season with defeats against rivals, the Minnesota Vikings and the Detroit Lions.

Fans criticized Troy Aikman for his harsh views on Caleb Williams

Williams had his work cut out for him in the nation’s capital. Not just on the field, but also in the announcer’s booth, because Aikman did not seem in the mood to give the former first overall any credit whatsoever.

Despite Williams throwing one touchdown and scrambling for one, Aikman kept dissecting every minute mistake, be it his delayed release of the ball or a bobbled snap.

Fans who listened to Aikman chirp against Williams throughout the night called out the ESPN employee for his ‘anti-Bear’ agenda.

Caleb Williams finished with 17 completions from 29 attempts (58.6%), 1 touchdown, 108 quarterback rating, and zero turnovers.

Williams and the Bears came away with a win thanks to newcomer Jake Moody. The kicker, who was cut by the San Francisco 49ers not so long ago, scored 4 of his 5, including the decisive field goal to secure a third win of the season for the NFC North franchise.

Despite sitting at the bottom of the division, the Bears are the only team on a three-game winning streak. Whether Aikman likes it or not, Williams deserves ample credit for the start the Bears have had. The USC graduate has thrown 1179 yards from 98 completions, 9 touchdowns, and just 2 interceptions in the first five games.

The Bears’ next game is against the 1-5 New Orleans Saints. The Saints lead the series 19-15 and have won the last 8 meetings.
