Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has come under a lot of flak for his attitude in the 2025 season. At a time when the franchise is struggling to find its identity, his deflective nature has become an unwanted distraction.
Many analysts questioned how the Hawaiian native could avoid listening to the criticisms when most of their struggles have been due to his inability to keep the ball in check late in games.
Those turnovers became the talking point in their Week 6 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. But instead of answering questions about those interceptions, Tagovailoa did the unprecedented and threw his teammates under the bus.
He claimed that the ‘leaders’ in the locker room and his teammates were not being serious about this season. The QB pointed out that most players were late, which shows that the motivation was not in the right place.
These claims caused a furor among fans and analysts, who believed Tagovailoa was being dismissive about his own mistakes and was also unnecessarily blaming his teammates. Now, he wanted to clear things out.
As a leader of this team, the Miami Dolphins, the comments that have been said, I would say I have made a mistake, and I’m owning up to that right now. I’ve talked to guys on the team about it, talked to the leaders about it. They know the intent was right.

The star QB then mentioned that his intention was not to blame his teammates. However, he claimed that the media played a hand in misconstruing what he was trying to say.
Tua Tagovailoa admits the talk has been too much amidst a 1-5 record
Before his sensational interview after their Week 6 loss to the Chargers, some former players were already upset about the excessive talking Tua Tagovailoa has been doing this season. Now he admits his words helped fan the flames of those narratives surrounding his team.

Being 1-5, we talk a lot about, ‘we got to get this going,’ I just added on to that for our guys. I’ve got to look at myself as a leader protecting the team. I don’t feel like I did that to the best of my abilities, I let the emotions of the game get to me.
Tua Tagovailoa said
Tua Tagovailoa admitting that he was responsible for bringing all that unwanted attention on his team should be the accountability that former players and analysts wanted to see from him.
Hopefully, the team can get together and work their issues out, as otherwise, the Dolphins are going to have to answer a lot of criticisms if they continue to lose games.
Dolphins player does not believe Tua Tagovailoa was wrong to call out leaders
In the midst of this furor, it is not clear if the Miami Dolphins players felt Tua Tagovailoa was wrong to throw them under the bus. Linebacker Jaelan Phillips does not feel his QB said anything wrong.
To that extent, I’m not really concerned with what Tua has to say. I know Tua’s heart. If he did say anything, it was out of good intentions. I don’t think he is trying to call anybody out in particular.
Jaelan Phillips told reporters
Dolphins OLB Jaelan Phillips offers a different perspective, that Tua can’t be faulted for calling teammates out if they were the ones in the wrong to begin with by being late. https://t.co/f16PP48s05 pic.twitter.com/os3ROx6Bqf

If this is the notion that the players carry, it seems all the hoopla surrounding the Alabama alum’s comments was blown up in the media. It may not be anything to worry too much about after all.
