After their opening week embarrassment, Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins put up a decent fight against the New England Patriots and the Buffalo Bills, but still wounded up losing fixtures.

That has pegged the franchise to the bottom of the AFC East on point differential, raising probing questions about the state of the team, and most importantly, the ability of the QB to keep the ball out of harm’s way.

In both those games, Tagovailoa’s late-game turnovers essentially cost them a chance at least trying to win them. Had he at least kept the ball in check, they would have done something to show that they were better than their record suggests.

Since his opening-week meltdown, star wide receiver Tyreek Hill has tried to find the silver lining and believes the team can turn it around. However, there are concerns that the 31-year-old might seek a way out if the situation does not improve.

In the midst of this, former league MVP Cam Newton suggested that it was unbecoming of a QB earning $53 million to throw away games late in close battles. When Tua Tagovailoa was asked about this comment at the Dolphins’ press conference, he replied:

Well, anybody can play quarterback in this league, then. I want to see anybody on the streets come play QB. Cam Newton is doing his thing for sure. I think it’s easier to be able to hold a clicker and talk about it that way. Or, talk about what someone else is doing wrong when you are not going out and having to do the same as them.

Tua Tagovailoa replied

The Alabama alum added that anybody can talk about others’ mistakes, but not everyone can play quarterback. It seems he forgot who Cam Newton was.

Fans tear into Tua Tagovailoa for mindless comment

When clips of this press conference reached social media, football fans were left shaking their heads. It became apparent that Tua Tagovailoa did not have a clue who Cam Newton was and believed he was just another talking head.

The Dolphins QB’s response was as dismissive as it could get, deflecting blame, like he has been over the past few weeks. Newton has also talked about Tagovailoa’s excessive commentary when he is asked questions, and this was another example of it.

Fans feel the Hawaiian native does not have his mind in the game, or he could be listening to constructive criticism and looking at areas to improve. But his dismissive nature is getting worse by the day, and could cost the Dolphins more. Check out examples of those reactions below:

Tua Tagovailoa and his Miami Dolphins will get their first chance of winning a game when they take on the hapless New York Jets in Week 4. They, however, cannot go in with a casual approach, as the Jets could inflict their 4th loss of the season.

Tua Tagovailoa has interesting opinion on mindset heading into Week 4

After facing three straight losses to open their season, it is normal for it to impact a team’s mindset. Reporters at the Dolphins’ media session asked Tua Tagovailoa about the team’s mental space heading into Week 4.

We’re kind of tired of talking about it. We’ve got to do something about it. We got to be able to show what we’ve been talking about throughout training camp, throughout OTAs, because all of that is not translating to stacking wins.

Tua Tagovailoa said

This answer suggests they do not want to talk about things that have not borne fruit so far, and want to first get a win before rethinking their approach to the rest of the season.

All the prep talk from the offseason has not had an impact. Therefore, they would much rather focus on one game, win it, and then proceed to the next with motivation to continue this new winning momentum.
