Just like how Justin Jefferson’s contract shook the entire wide receiver market, Jared Goff’s lucrative deal made quite some noise in the quarterback market, even though it wasn’t the highest-paid or reset the market. It especially impacted the Miami Dolphins’ QB Tua Tagovailoa, who is awaiting his extension.

Unlike other players across the league, Tagovailoa isn’t holding out on the team’s mandatory training camp and instead actively participating. Even though the quarterback is confident in getting his deserving extension, he is “not blind” to the lucrative extension that the QBs are getting across the league.

He addressed Goff’s $212 million contract with an annual salary of $53 million on Tuesday during the press conference after the Dolphins’ first mandatory training camp.

The market is the market. If we didn't have a market, then none of that would matter. [It'd] just be an organizational thing, you know, didn't matter if that guy got paid that because it's up to the organization.
said Tua Tagovailoa when asked whether Goff’s lucrative deal

While stating that he isn’t ignorant about the quarterbacks getting paid across the league, the Dolphins QB clarified that he isn’t concerned about his extension too much.

Dolphins and Tua Tagovailoa inch closer to agreement

As Tagovailoa entered the final year of his contract, General Manager Chris Grier said that the franchise is willing to secure the quarterback on a long-term basis and thereon, begin the contract negotiations. Both parties have been in discussion since the beginning of the offseason and it has been moving in the right direction.

On Tuesday, the Pro Bowler QB also addressed his contract situation, saying there has been a lot of progress. This is also the reason why he is not holding out on the offseason program.

You can ask the other question of, 'Why aren't we seeing an agreement?' Well, that's the tough part about it. That's why it's business.

Both Miami and Tagovailoa are finding a deal satisfactory to both parties and that’s why the process is taking so much time, as the quarterback described it as a business transaction.
