The Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who suffered the third concussion of his NFL career against the Buffalo Bills on Thursday, has been asked to consider retirement by many personalities in and outside the game. Amid the numerous calls for retirement, the player will reportedly consult a neurologist before he takes action on his future career.

Tua Tagovailoa will consider the impact of the third concussion on his brain and the cumulative after-effects of all the head traumas he suffered in his life, per Adam Schefter. Repeated head injuries can cause many long-term problems, starting with memory loss and chronic headaches. It also elevates the chances of dementia and Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a point highlighted by many athletes.

When Damar Hamlin did a routine tackle, Tagovailoa suffered a concussion during the game against the Bills. The latter immediately crouched down and froze in a fencing posture. Experts state that such a posture usually represents a seizure or loss of consciousness, which are severe.

The 26-year-old star and father of two has suffered four concussions in the past five years. He sustained a concussion during his time in the Crimson Tide, suffered two head injuries in 2022 and took a third hit in the same season, prompting a change in how things work.

In 2022, the Dolphins and the NFL faced backlash as Tagovailoa was hospitalized just four days after being cleared to play following a suspected head injury. The case prompted the NFL and NFLPA to revise their concussion protocol. The Dolphins might not make a rushed decision on Tagovailoa’s current condition, so that he can think it over and come up with an apt solution.

Tua Tagovailoa has no plans to retire, claims Ian Rapoport

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport said on Sunday’s NFL GameDay Morning that Tagovailoa has no intention of retiring, despite his recent concussion. According to close sources, Tagovailoa has already started consulting concussion specialists.

Tagovailoa will continue to consult specialists until they come to an agreement that he has fully recovered and is ready to return to play. While there is no specific timeline for his comeback, he seems to be actively working towards a safe and successful return to the field.

Meanwhile, Skylar Thompson will the primary quarterback for the Dolphins.

Although there have been certain rumors regarding the possibility of the Dolphins bringing in a new QB for the season, there’s no confirmed sources yet. The Dolphins will play Seattle Seahawks in the next game week.
