It has only been a couple of weeks since the Miami Dolphins reinstated Tua Tagovailoa to the starting lineup after the end of his concussion protocol. Yet, the fifth-year quarterback nearly ended up back in the hospital once again on Monday.

The Dolphins traveled to LA to lay the Rams in search of their third and Tagovailoa’s second win of the campaign. Mike McDaniel’s team took a 10-point lead in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Rams turned the ball over to the Dolphins. Tagovailoa snapped the ball second and 15 inside his own half and launched a pass for Jaylen Waddle, which Rams linebacker Christian Rozeboom picked off and ran with it to score a six.

He gained around 15 yards before running into Tagovailoa. The Dolphins quarterback lowered his helmet to impede Rozeboom, whose trailing knee hit the side of his helmet.

There were no lasting consequences for Tua Tagovailoa after colliding with the Rams player

Moments after the collision, the announcers seemed worried that Tua hurt himself again because the impact was on his helmet. To everyone’s surprise, he immediately got back up and returned to the sidelines. Sideline cameras caught the Dolphins coaching staff slightly agitated, but it did not seem anything was cause for concern.

Tua returned to the game and led the Dolphins to much much-awaited third victory as the game ended 23-15. Tagovailoa recorded 20 completions from 28 attempts for 207 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

During the post-match presser, reporters were quick to ask about the Rozeboom hit. The 26-year-old revealed that he was fine.

I feel good. Everything’s good.

Tua Tagovailoa said

After the challenge, Tua confronted Rozeboom. The edge rusher revealed that he had nowhere else to go, as he was close to going out of bounds. Tagovailoa respected his response.

You know, he gotta do what he gotta do to help his team win games, and I wasn’t planning to use my head to hit him.

Tua Tagovailoa elaborated

When one of the reporters pointed out that during the challenge, Tua’s shoulder also came in contact with Rozeboom’s knee—whether it left a mark or not.

Nah, didn’t feel any of that. That was pretty bad tackling from him though. It was pretty terrible.

Tua Tagovailoa joked

The win leaves the Dolphins with a 3-6 record after ten weeks of football. There’s still an outside chance of bagging the sixth seed in the AFC, but to achieve it, the Dolphins need to win all of the remaining games and pray that one of the other teams in the conference loses a few.

Tua suffered a concussion in the week 2 game against the Buffalo Bills. The Dolphins put him on the concussion protocol, and there were even talks of the Alabama graduate retiring from football. He eventually returned and since then started three games for the Dolphins.
