Tua Tagovailoa enjoys playing NFL games at international venues. Tagovailoa became the first of two quarterbacks to play an NFL game in Madrid, Spain, alongside Marcus Mariota.
The capacity crowd at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium witnessed a tense game, full of penalties and questionable play calls. The Miami Dolphins conceded 4 penalties for 39 yards, while the Washington Commanders committed 6 penalties for 31 yards.
Fans stayed longer than anticipated as the game dragged on into overtime. The first interception by either of the QBs took place when the Dolphins’ DB Jack Jones picked off a stray pass from Mariota.
It was the first turnover of the night, which the Dolphins converted with precision. Tagovailoa connected with running back De’Von Achane twice in the drive that set up Riley Patterson for a successful 29-yard field goal try.
Spain’s first-ever NFL fixture ended in a 16-13 win for the Dolphins. Tua looked unusually jovial during the post-game presser. The reporters soon discovered the reason.
Shoot, it’d be pretty cool to go play in Jerusalem. … That’d be sick.

The Dolphins are among the most traveled teams in the NFL. Prior to the game in Spain, they had played 7 trips abroad, playing in places including Germany, London, and Mexico.

However, their record in games outside of the US is abysmal. Sunday’s win against the Commanders was only the Dolphins’ second victory since beating the Raiders at London’s Wembley Stadium in 2014.
It’s cool that Tagovailoa wants to contribute to the NFL’s goal of becoming a global sport, but playing in Jerusalem may have to wait a bit. The NFL has no plans to host games in the war-torn Middle East anytime soon.
Looking to resurrect his career.

It would be sick to have an NFL game where Jesus started his ministry and performed miracles. Just not the dolphins tho lmao
Tagovailoa has played in three international games since becoming the Dolphins quarterback. In 2021, he led the Dolphins against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. Tua threw for 329 yards and two touchdowns on 32 completions in a 23-20 defeat. In 2023, he threw 21 completions for 193 yards and one touchdown in a 21–14 loss against the Kansas City Chiefs in Frankfurt, Germany.
