The Miami Dolphins, despite finishing second in the division last season, had only eight wins and a losing record. The Dolphins broke their two-season streak of making the playoffs as they struggled with injuries and a broken quarterback room.

The redemption season with a much healthier Tua Tagovailoa isn’t seemingly getting any better either. They are still struggling from some strays in the past season, most notably, Tyreek Hill’s “I’m out” comment and the exit from the season finale against the New York Jets. He also had posted Baker Mayfield above Tua Tagovailoa in his quarterback rankings three months back.

In a recent press availability, Tagovailoa tackled the question of whether the comments have affected the team and how they have been handling the issue. He admitted that Hill’s comments were broadcast for the world to see, and a lot of guys on the roster heard that as well. He claimed that it is not easy to mend the broken trust afterwards.

It’s not just with me, it’s with a lot of the guys. I’m not the only one that heard that. You guys aren’t the only people that heard that. A lot of people that follow football, that follow the Miami Dolphins, that follow Tyreek that are fans of his — everyone has seen that. So, when you say something like that, you don’t just come back from that with, ‘Hey, my bad.’ You got to work that relationship up, you’ve got to build everything back up again.

Tagovailoa added that Tyreek Hill has been putting in work to become a better person and teammate. He noted that the wideout had been really vulnerable and allowed his teammates to see and know more about him. Despite the concerning approach, Tagovailoa finished off the question, admitting that he, as well as the roster, respects him and what he can do on the field.

We love him, but as a person, if you get to know him, I think you’d love him too.

Tyreek Hill drama casts a shadow over the deep Dolphins wideout corps

The Miami Dolphins wide receiver room is arguably one of the deepest and fastest in the league, but with the Tyreek Hill drama, the turbulence has begun to show out. The recent comments from Tua Tagovailoa revealed that there’s a shift of focus in the room.

This can alter the Dolphins’ unit values of precision, speed, and cohesion. Nevertheless, the trajectory that Hill is taking is positive. Building trust is very important, as any discord can ripple through the unit.

The wide receiver room in the Sunshine State team is centered on Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. The duo, who are known to have a beautiful route-running routine, are also very crafty on the field. However, Waddle’s numbers had dropped magnanimously last season, averaging 13.0 yards per game, his second-lowest ever. A lot of it can be explained by the absence of a solid quarterback.

With Hill’s uncertainties and trying time, along with Waddle’s decline in performance, the rest of the roster becomes more important. In the last four games of the season, rookie Malik Washington produced 16 receptions for 169 yards in his final four games. He has shown value and could be utilised in a bigger role as the Dolphins look to diversify their playbook.

The offseason addition, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, averaged 15.5 yards per reception and scored nine touchdowns on just 32 receptions last season for the Titans. His run game and efficient pass catching might just be what the Dolphins want.

Depth-wise, the room is promising but unproven. The rest include Erik Ezukanma, Tahj Washington, and Monaray Baldwin. The wide receiver room might turn out to be the revolving door this season if Hill decides to slip out or the chemistry is missing.
