Turkish Grand Prix to return and replace the Canadian Grand Prix in the 2021 Calender

Due to the rise of coronavirus cases in Canada, international travel restrictions have been imposed and hence the 2021 Canadian Grand Prix has been cancelled. This will mean the return of the Turkish Grand Prix at the Istanbul Park.

Turkey returned to the Formula 1 calendar last year after a 9 year gap. The wet 2020 race was loved by the fans and they wanted the Istanbul Park circuit back on the calender.

“We are grateful for the efforts of the promoter and the authorities in Canada, Quebec and Montreal in the past few weeks to try and make the race happen and we are pleased to announce a two-year extension to our partnership with the Canadian Grand Prix,” read a statement by Formula 1.

“We will work with the promoter to ensure those with tickets from 2020 & 2021 races get the options of a refund or to transfer their tickets to next year’s race and look forward to racing in Canada in 2022.”

The 2020 Turkish Grand Prix was one of the most exciting race of the season. In a wet qualifying session, Lance Stroll surprised everyone when he bagged his first pole. But the race was all about Lewis Hamilton, who won a record equaling 7th World title.

“While it is disappointing we cannot be in Canada this season we are excited to confirm that Turkey will host a Grand Prix in 2021 after an amazing race last season,” said Stefano Domenical.

“I know all our fans are excited by the dramatic start to the season and Turkey is a great circuit that delivers great battles on the track.”

The race will be held on the 13th June with practice beginning on the 11th. This will also be the 7th Round of the World Championship.
