The New York Giants became the latest victims of the notorious tush push when they played the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday (October 26) at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. The Eagles took the lead in the second quarter following a controversial call involving the tush push.
On 4th and 1, in the second quarter, the Eagles lined up in their familiar tush push formation. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts and tight end Dallas Goedert simultaneously lined up behind center Brett Toth, who played in place of injured Cam Jurgens.
Goedert pushed Hurts over the pile of Eagles players to secure the first down. However, as he was getting pushed forward. Giants pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux ripped the ball out of Hurts’ hands.
Brian Burns picked up the loose ball, and before he could make a break for the byline, the referee blew the whistle to stop the play. Hurts was marked down, and the Eagles received a first down.
Head referee Brad Rogers later explained that the officials ruled it in the Eagles’ favor because Hurts’ forward progress was stopped.
New York media’s Bobby Skinner called out the officials on X for not allowing the play to develop as the Giants had a great chance for a return.
I mean you literally can't do anything. Should be Giants ball pic.twitter.com/BhjN5wD5No

Super Bowl-winning defender Richard Sherman gave his two cents on the controversial call.
So a tush push can last long enough for the Oline to push the QB but not long enough for the QB to reach the ball and fumble. The more I watch the play the more confused I am about it. No whistle had been blown.

In the ensuing play, Hurts went on to throw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Saquon Barkley, who caught 4 passes along with 19 carries for 150 yards and one score on the ground.

Kayvon Thibodeaux wasn’t happy with the controversial tush push decision that led to the Eagles’ touchdown
The Giants traveled to Philly on the back of a narrow defeat in Denver against the Broncos, a week after upsetting the Eagles at home. Hurts and Co., on the other hand, overcame the challenge from the Minnesota Vikings before the Sunday night fixture.

Even though the Eagles started as the overwhelming favorites to improve their record, the Giants had the rare opportunity to do the double on their NFC East rivals for the first time since 2007.
The Giants kept pace with the defending Super Bowl champions in the first twenty-five minutes before the Eagles gained control. The controversial tush push decision, which resulted in Barkley’s second touchdown, served as the decisive moment.
Thibodeaux was naturally unhappy with the outcome and lost his cool after reporters relayed Rodgers’ message to him.
[The official] said they called the forward progress before he reached the ball out? Sounds like some (expletive) to me.
Kayvon Thibodeaux said (H/T: ESPN)
Burns stopped his teammate from further slandering the officials. He reminded Thibodeaux that he could get fined if he did not put a leash on his mouth.
Sorry, I mean, that was a great call by the refs. You can’t blame missed calls on anything. I think we didn’t stop the run. They made the 50-50 balls, and they got the best of us.
Thibodeaux added
Thibodeaux had five tackles, one deflection, and a QB hit across the four quarters.
Next week, the 2-6 Giants host the San Francisco 49ers, who fell to 5-2 after losing against the Houston Texans. The 49ers enjoy a 22-21 all-time record in the series and have won the last two meetings.
