The Minnesota Twins cleared their house on trade deadline day on Thursday. The American League Central side traded away 10 core players from the team including Carlos Correa which sparked several wild reactions on social media.

The Twins were one of the favorites to win the AL Central last season. However, they suffered a dramatic collapse and have been struggling since then. With their team having a negative record this season and having a high payroll of around $440 million, the team decided to be sellers at the trade deadline this year.

In a massive development, the team traded away Carlos Correa, Harrison Bader, Griffin Jax, Louis Varland, Brock Stewart, Danny Coulombe, Willi Castro, Ty France, Chris Paddack, and Jhoan Duran.

In return, the team received Hendry Mendez, Geremy Villoria, James Outman, Garrett Horn, Mike Mikulski, Alan Roden, Kendry Rojas, Taj Bradley, Sam Armstrong, and Ryan Gallagher. In short, the team received some players with major league experience, some top prospects, and a massive relief in the salary department.

The biggest trade in this was of Correa. The Twins traded the shortstop back to the Houston Astros after they acquired him in 2022.

The 3-time All-Star was struggling for consistency this season. The team sent $33 million to the Astros to help cover his remaining contract. As per reports, the player is owed $96 million through 2028, with club options from 2029-2032.

Twins GM opens up about trading Carlos Correa back to the Houston Astros

One of the biggest names to be traded away on Thursday was Carlos Correa. The 30-year-old was traded back to his former team, the Houston Astros, after a struggling 2025 season. Minnesota Twins GM Derek Falvey would later open up about this move.

As per Falvey, the player had not demanded a trade. The move just felt right for the Twins and the Astros were the only team Correa was willingly to waive his no-trade clause for.

When the Houston rumors came out, he wanted to have a brief conversation about it and I said my door is always open. We had that discussion… but Carlos was never sitting there demanding a trade or wanting to do something else. If it was right for the Twins and it was right for him, he was open to the conversation.

Derek Falvey said as per MLB.com

Correa, who had previously signed a 3-year $105 million deal with the team in 2022, had optioned out of his contract after the 2022 season. After failed moves to the San Francisco Giants and the New York Mets, he re-signed with the team on a 6-year $200 million deal.

This year, he was having an up-and-down season. In the 93 games he played, he managed to hit just 7 home runs and had 31 RBIs while having a slash line of .267/.319/.386.
