IPL 2021: Twitter reacts as Glenn Maxwell lights up Chepauk with a 78-run knock

Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell had a horror Indian Premier League (IPL) season last year for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). He couldn’t hit a single six throughout the tournament and was ultimately dropped in the side’s last match. After being released from the side, the Aussie went for big money to the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The move had its fair share of critics, but Maxwell has now proved his doubters wrong.

After an impressive display in the first match where he contributed with a useful 30, Maxwell notched up a half-century and got the Man of the Match award in the side’s second match. He then followed it up with the best of the lot today against a hapless Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) who were an upbeat bunch when the all-rounder came on to bat, having got two early wickets in the Powerplay.

When Maxwell came on to bat, Varun Chakravarthy had removed both Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar in just the second over. Despite the conditions looking to be a bit tacky to bat on, Maxwell started freeing his arms early on and took on the KKR bowlers. The spinners were taken for plenty after their impressive beginning before the likes of Pat Cummins and Prasidh Krishna were also taken for runs.

Maxwell went past Nitish Rana in the Orange Cap list and looked set for a century before Cummins came back with an excellent over to stifle him before having him top-edge a shot straight to Harbhajan Singh. Soon after his knock, Twitter was filled with reactions of awe at Maxwell’s effort.
