IPL 2021: Twitter reacts as Rohit Sharma rescues Mumbai Indians with a splendid knock

Mumbai Indians’ (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma led from the front with an assured half-century against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. On yet another difficult to bat on, PBKS had decided to field first after winning the toss. It was a strange decision given that most sides have preferred to bat first due to the fact that the pitch in Chennai slows down with time.

PBKS brought in Ravi Bishoni instead of Murugan Ashwin and the young leggie delivered for them with two wickets. But beore that, it was Deepak Hooda who provided the breakthrough by removing Quinton de Kock early. The South African has not looked in good form at all ever since his arrival in the tournament. His form will be a cause for concern, but Rohit Sharma’s most certainly wouldn’t.

After de Kock’s dismissal, MI decided to promote Ishan Kishan up the order. However, the left-handed batsman struggled a great deal before getting out for 6 runs in a whopping 17 balls. With MI well and truly in a spot of bother, Suryakumar Yadav joined his captain and the two upped the ante as the score seemed to be going nowhere. From a position of peril, they took MI to a position of reasonable comfort.

It was the skipper who was in terrific touch as he took calculated risks. Short balls by spinners were punished while the pacers were dealt with comfortably. After Surya’s dismissal, Rohit carried on before he holed out off Mohammed Shami‘s bowling. His knock ended on 63 off 52 balls.
