A recent report revealed that two prominent clubs were ready to pay Ruben Amorim’s massive €10 million release clause, but were rejected by the Portuguese manager. This was before he ultimately decided to join Premier League giants Manchester United.

Sporting CP manager Ruben Amorim, most recently agreed to join Manchester United as their new head coach, replacing Dutchman Erik ten Hag. The former Ajax boss was shown the door out after enduring their worst possible start to a new EPL season.

Amorim is now set to take charge from interim Man Utd boss Ruud van Nistelrooy this month, and just has two more matches left with his current side. His first game at Old Trafford will be a Premier League outing against Leicester City.

Interestingly, two prominent sides were in the race to lure Ruben Amorim to their club, much before Manchester United had made a move. Reports suggest that Al-Nassr and West Ham had offered to activate the Portuguese’s €10 million release clause.

He had even traveled to London to discuss West Ham’s proposal, but later decided against it. Al-Nassr, on the other hand, saw a €20 million per-year offer being rejected, which could have otherwise made him one of the highest-paid managers.

It remains to be seen how well Ruben Amorim fares at Manchester United as he is expected to be faced with a lot of challenges in his EPL journey. Meanwhile, at Sporting CP, he led the club to a massive 5-1 win over Estrela da Amadora in the Portuguese PL, making it ten out of ten league wins this season.

Ruben Amorim reportedly wants three Sporting CP players at Manchester United

Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim, who is set to take up Manchester United’s vacant managerial position, will reportedly follow the strategy of bringing in more players from his former club. Erik ten Hag also used a similar strategy for Ajax stars, but it failed to yield results.

Amorim has reportedly set his sights on signing three players from Sporting CP next summer, which includes a defender and two forwards. First on his list will be young Portuguese center-back Goncalo Inacio, who was a Man Utd transfer target this summer. The two other players on his list could be a choice between two wingers, Marcus Edwards or Pedro Goncalves.

However, in order to sign them, Amorim would have to clear up the overhauled Manchester United squad, which means selling players. Antony, Marcus Rashford, Christian Eriksen, Mason Mount and Victor Lindelof could be on their way out.
