Two WWE storylines were approved by Vince McMahon
WWE CEO and Chairman Vince McMahon
In early 1998, NWA invaded WWE. During this period, Cornette briefly managed Jeff Jarrett on WWE TV. WWE writer has now revealed that why Vince McMahon allowed Cornette to managed multiple WWE Superstars during this period.
After briefly managing Jarrett, Cornette went on to manage Bodacious Bart and Bombastic Bob. They jointly formed the The New Midnight Express.
Cornette mentioned that McMahon knew these alliances won’t work. But he only approved the storylines because Cornette had pitched the ideas. Russo was discussing this during SK Wrestling’s Off the SKript.
“Cornette would sit in the meetings and talk about Midnight and Rock ‘n’ Roll Express and all that stuff, and Vince was like, ‘Okay, fine, we’ll put that out there and it’ll fall flat on its face.’ That’s how a lot of it works.”
McMahon was against Midnight Express
Russo, during the interview even mentioned that Cornette felt a new version of The Midnight Express might work. He felt that it would suit Vince McMahon’s show.
But Russo even mentioned that he and McMahon were not in favor of the idea. They felt that the team would never work on WWE’s Attitude Era.
