After a difficult 2024 marked by unforeseen knee issues, Kawhi Leonard has yet to play for the Los Angeles Clippers this season. Despite making the All-NBA team and playing over 65 games last season, a mysterious knee injury in March sidelined him for most of the 2024 playoffs, Team USA’s summer campaign, and the current season.

Regarding Leonard, his Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue offered a heart-breaking perspective which left the Clippers’ fans emotional. On the Stephen A. Smith Show, Lue discussed Leonard’s condition in detail for the first time in months.

For him, it’s more frustrating. He wants to be on the floor every single night and it’s just bad timing. It’s not like we got to the Playoffs and said, ‘I don’t want to play.’ It’s been some tough days and nights, and I’ve talked to Kawhi on nights where he’s almost crying just talking about how he let the team down.

Last season, Leonard played 68 games and averaged 23.7 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists, looking healthier than he had in years. His outstanding play from the previous season earned him a spot on the All-NBA Team, but after March, his knee mysteriously failed.

Leonard got permission for on-court activities in November, and the Clippers are hopeful he returns soon. There is no confirmation as to how soon he is going to make his season debut. With James Harden and Norman Powell leading the team, the team has a 14-11 start to the season and is still in the running for a postseason berth.

Ty Lue opened up on Kawhi Leonard’s injury

On November 8, the Los Angeles Clippers faced the Houston Rockets and came up short, missing star player Kawhi Leonard, who has been sidelined for most of the season due to injury. However, Leonard has recently returned to light practice, and head coach Tyronn Lue expressed satisfaction with his progress on the road to recovery.

It raised our energy. Just for our guys to see him on the floor brought a juice to our team. We needed that jolt.

Tyronn Lue told the reporters on Tuesday

The Clippers are 14-11 after 25 NBA games, approximately one-fourth of the season. In terms of offensive and defensive ratings, the squad is ranked 23rd in offense and 4th in defense.

The Clippers currently rank 10th in net ratings, and the prospect of a healthy Kawhi Leonard rejoining the team has many fans excited about the potential of the current squad.
