“Keeping him from LeBron!” – Ty Lue gets MASSIVE 5-year $70 million extension from Clippers; fans show mixed emotions
Ty Lue joins the list of highest paid coaches in the NBA.
Los Angeles Clippers and head coach Ty Lue agree to 5-year contract extension worth $70 million, fans have mixed reactions
Ty Lue is considered to be one of the best head coaches in the NBA. So much so, that any team who wants to become a contender reaches out to him. The Los Angeles Clippers shut down all possibilities of losing him by extending Lue’s contract. Essentially ensuring that their head coach stays on through the current superstar era and on to the future.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania and ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Lue has agreed on a 5-year contract extension which will pay him $70 million. That puts him squarely in the league of the highest-paid coaches in the NBA. But it crucially ties him up for the future as the Clippers are set to move into their new arena starting next season. This also gives them a solid base to transition from the current superstar-laden team.
With the sleuth of superstars possibly leaving the Clippers, the presence of a championship-winning head coach in Ty Lue will ensure that at least a system is in place. They want to continuously play in the playoffs and eventually contend for an NBA title.
A solid system akin to what the Miami Heat have in place would ensure that they can bring in players who would work in that system. That is the key to continuous success. Otherwise, there would be a revolving door for both players as well as coaches. They need that stability going forward with their team about to break up.
Fans have mixed emotions to this Ty Lue extension
Basketball fans know that the superstars on the Los Angeles Clippers could seek new pastures. After all, the season that at one point suggested that they were the best team, fell apart towards the end. It confirmed the fact that the combination is not working. However, some fans feel Ty Lue cannot get the best out of them.
But some were happy that he and the Clippers have some stability going forward with their goal of an NBA title. Check out some of those reactions below;
The Los Angeles Clippers have a lot of questions to answer going into next season. However, extending Ty Lue gives them stability to one question. The rest they will have to answer as the off-season starts.
