Aaron Rodgers is spoiled for choices with the wide receivers at the Pittsburgh Steelers. From veterans Scotty Miller and DK Metcalf to exciting young athletes Roman Wilson and Calvin Austin. But it doesn’t hurt to have quality depth in one of the most important positions on the roster.

One free-agent wideout recently threw his name in the hat. Tyler Boyd is currently without a team after spending 2024 with the Tennessee Titans. Boyd, a Pittsburgh native, was in town for youth camp.

Reporters asked whether he has an interest in wearing the black and gold of the Steelers. Boyd replied that he shares good relations with the Steelers’ head coach.

I’m really cool with [Mike] Tomlin. He’s always been a good person. We always wrapped it up. When I was at Pitt, we had a good relationship.

Tyler Boyd told Joe Fitzgerald of the Steelers Now

Boyd hails from Clairton, Pennsylvania, and is a local superstar. He played college football for the Pittsburgh Panthers after finishing high school. At Pitt, Boyd finished with 248 catches for 3361 yards before being drafted by the Steelers’ rivals, the Cincinnati Bengals, in 2016, where he spent eight seasons.

A move to the Steelers would be massive for Boyd. With Aaron Rodgers as his quarterback, he might bounce back from last year’s horror show. In 16 appearances (8 starts), Boyd caught 39 passes for 390 yards and zero touchdowns. These were his second-worst numbers of his career and his first ever season without scoring a touchdown.

Rodgers could change that, but before that, the Steelers need to show interest. George Pickens’ trade has left a void that Tomlin can fill by signing Boyd, even though they recently signed 14-year veteran Robert Woods.

One Steelers tight end received massive praise from Aaron Rodgers

Aside from the receivers, Rodgers also inherited a talented tight end group consisting of Pat Freiermuth, who bagged a 70.0 grade from the Pro Football Focus. Freiermuth isn’t the only tight end who can pose a great threat to NFL defenses.

Third-year Darnell Washington is 6 feet 7, and Rodgers feels he is one of the best tight ends he has ever thrown to. He even compared Washington to his former Green Bay Packers teammate Marcedes Lewis.

I told Darnell today that I haven’t had a tight end like him since Marcedes. Marcedes, an all-time great. Darnell is like a young Marcedes. He’s able to do things in the passing game and dominate the line of scrimmage.

Aaron Rodgers said

In 30 games, Washington has caught 25 passes for 253 yards and one touchdown. He could witness a breakout campaign while receiving from one of the best pure passers in NFL history. Two-time Super Bowl-winning Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger recently said on his podcast,

You’re going to get to see one of the greatest of all time play one more season. Every week is going to be must-see TV. Fans of football—whether at home or on the road—will be coming out because you want to get a glimpse of greatness one last time.

Rodgers played every game for the New York Jets in 2024. Despite winning just five games, Rodgers completed 63% of his passes for 28 touchdowns and 11 picks.
