In Short
  • Tyler Herro and Kevin Durant exchanged heated words during the Miami Heat's 115-105 victory over the Houston Rockets.
  • Herro described the interaction as competitive, aiming to energize his team while down early in the game.
  • Both players expressed mutual respect post-game, downplaying the intensity of their exchange.

During the latest matchup between Miami Heat and Houston Rockets, Kevin Durant and Tyler Herro exchanged words throughout the course of the first half. In the end, it was Herro who had the last laugh as the Heat pulled off a fourth quarter dominance and registered a 115-105 victory over the Rockets at the Kaseya Center on Saturday night.

After consecutive defeats on the road, the Heat continued their impressive form at home. The win improved their record to 32-29 as they remain in the play-in spots at eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings and are just two games behind sixth seed Philadelphia 76ers. Meanwhile, the Rockets stay at third place in the Western Conference standings with a 37-22 record.

Kevin Durant led the scorers and scored a game-high 32 points to go along with five rebounds and eight assists. Tyler Herro had an efficient scoring night and recorded 18 points on 67% from the field. All the starters from both teams registered double digit points on Saturday night. The difference came down to the bench as the Heat outscored the Rockets by 31-16.

Last few weeks have been difficult for Durant. The two-time champion was criticized for shifting the blame onto Nikola Jokic and Luka Doncic for the decline of the All-Star Game and was recently accused of using a burner account to throw shade at both current and former teammates. The spotlight was on Durant once again as he went at it with Herro during the game.

Following the game, Tyler Herro was asked about the verbal back and forth with Kevin Durant in his post-match locker-room interview.

Nothing crazy. I know Kev a little bit just competing. I was trying to just bring a little edge to our team…we were down 14-4 at the time. Just wanted to get some fire going. We’re competing at the end of the day. He was saying I couldn’t guard, then I said something to him. You want to be able to play against the best in the world and compete like that. That’s what I live for. I love to compete.

Tyler Herro said after the game

It appears that it is all good on Herro’s side. It was just in the heat of the moment which added some fire to a fiery clash.

While Tyler Herro said it was all good, it looked far from it as the two clashed throughout the first half. The first quarter saw the two going at it as the officiating crew had to separate them before they escalated things further.

Durant confronted Herro when the latter said something to him. The two continued with their spat for the remainder of the half, with Durant taking it to Herro after hitting a three.

After the game, the two stars shared a postgame hug, moving on from their intense interactions. Both players were given technical fouls in the first quarter.

Kevin Durant still has respect for Tyler Herro

Kevin Durant put on a show in Miami, however, it was not enough to get over the hump. After jawing at each other, Durant and Tyler Herro went on to trade buckets at several segments in the remainder of the game.

While Durant has stayed away from questions related to his burner account, he could not avoid related to his altercation with Herro in his post-match interview.

I just think we both needed a little jolt and energy to start the game. You seen it. We laughed and joke right after that. I got respect for Tyler. He has respect for me. Those words, it’s his words at the end of the day. We ain’t do nothing too much. It wasn’t too physical on our end. I appreciate his competitiveness and vice versa. We can move on from there.

Kevin Durant said after the game

That’s the art of the competitive spirit. Just like Herro, Durant also has moved on from what happened during the game. No matter how intense the interactions Durant and Herro had with each other, they continue to maintain respect for one another.
