This offseason, the Miami Heat must make a crucial choice about guard Tyler Herro. The Heat star, who just finished his career-best season, will have the opportunity to sign a three-year, $149.7 million deal at the beginning of the month (in October instead of July or August), although it would not start until the 2027–2028 campaign.
Notably, as per ESPN’s Bobby Marks, he expects the Heat to extend Herro’s contract, making him one of the highest-paid players on the roster. If Herro signed the deal, his pay would start at $46.2 million, $48.9 million, and $53.6 million in 2027–2028. As a result, his previously announced extension would represent 24.7, 24.2, and 23.7 percent of the quota from 2027 to 40.
However, many NBA fans are left baffled by the Heat’s contract extension numbers. This fall, the Heat have a window of over three weeks to extend Herro. They would possess much time even if they didn’t. After his age-27 season in 2025–2026, Herro has one more year left on his deal at $33 million. Next offseason, the 6-foot-5 guard would be eligible for an extension, but only for a four-year, $207 million contract.

The two main distinctions are 1) the additional year ($57.3 million in 30–31) and 2) Herro would be able to sign a five-year, $380 supermax contract if he were to make the All-NBA team the following season, which is a remote possibility. The 2019 first-round selection earned his first All-Star selection after averaging career-highs in several categories.
Terry Rozier‘s lackluster performance made Herro the team’s top scorer as they battled to qualify for the playoffs. Herro would rank among the NBA’s highest-paid guards if he were to sign that extension. His yearly value would soar from $33 million to $50 million on average. Perhaps the most important player on the team this season was Herro.
Fans left baffled after coming across the Tyler Herro contract extension reports
Tyler Herro finished 2024–25 with five games with at least 35 points, a career-high 47.2% shooting percentage from the field, and 5.5 assists per game. He also averaged at least 20 points per game. The Heat should try to sign Herro when talks start on October 1 because his extension would cost a little more if a deal is not reached by October 20(as mentioned above).
Despite all this, fans are still not sold on this deal. Many of them took to various social media apps to put forward their views and annoyance regarding this deal. One fan wrote on X, “This why we gone be in the play-in spot every year.” Check out some of the fan reactions below:

After his outstanding season, Herro’s trade value has most likely grown. He is no longer merely a toaster scorer or a sixth guy. He has developed into a player who can make critical shots and spread the floor with powerful scorers. Because of this change, he is now a desirable addition to any squad seeking a prolific scorer.
Tyler Herro is least concerned about his contract extension with the Heat
Tyler Herro has been a great addition to the Heat squad ever since he was picked by them in the first place. Over the years, Herro has grown into a superstar for the team, with this season in particular being a special one for him. As for the Heat, they still have many issues to resolve, including Herro’s contract extension. However, the Heat star is least concerned about them, as he once opened up on this.
It’s something I haven’t paid much attention to, I’m going to let my agent and the organization figure that out. But everyone knows I want to be here long term and I’m definitely excited to see what they have to say for the extension, and see if they want me here as much as I want to be here.”

In addition, the former Kentucky player handed up a career-high 5.5 assists and pulled down 5.2 rebounds per game. Although there are good reasons to extend him, the Heat are not guaranteed to give him the whole amount over the next five months just because he is eligible for a $150 million deal.
