- Andy Reid dismisses rumors of a Tyreek Hill reunion with the Chiefs, stating "there's nothing happening there."
- Hill is currently in Kansas City rehabbing from a torn ACL, but his health status remains uncertain.
- The Chiefs have cleared cap space but may be cautious about signing Hill due to his injury and age.
When Tyreek Hill was a member of the Miami Dolphins, there wasn’t a single moment when fans or the media were not trying to connect him with his former team, the Kansas City Chiefs.
Either they threw indirect questions to get a response, or they linked his unhappiness with a desire to return and join his former teammates. The situation escalated when the Chiefs won two Super Bowls without him.
However, he chose to dig in and work towards helping the Dolphins back to the playoffs. However, after quarterback Tua Tagovailoa‘s struggles led to some frustrated outbursts, many felt the writing was on the wall.
The final nail in the coffin was when he tore his ACL. With his massive salary and the Dolphins moving towards a rebuild, there was no way they would keep him around.
That time has come, and the 31-year-old is apparently in Kansas City, rehabbing from that gruesome knee injury. However, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid does not believe a reunion is on the cards.
I don’t even know if Tyreek is healthy right now to do anything… We talk about everything, so there’s nothing happening there, but we know what you know, and he’s out there cranking away trying to get himself back to where he can play, period.

This essentially pours cold water on any rumors of Tyreek Hill immediately signing with the Kansas City Chiefs, now that he is in the city.
Andy Reid may have intentionally pumped the brakes on Tyreek Hill reunion rumors
It so happens that as soon as the Miami Dolphins released Tyreek Hill, almost every person associated with the NFL knew that the Kansas City Chiefs would likely be his next destination.

After all, head coach Andy Reid and his staff were the ones who turned the fifth-round pick into one of the best receivers in the league. Therefore, they know best how to utilize his skills.
This injury might slow him down a tad bit, but he is still a matchup problem for any defender. Then, one would wonder why Reid would pump the brakes on a reunion.
After all, Hill is working out in Kansas City. However, it might be a ploy from the burger-loving coach, as the receiver’s agents could take advantage of their possible interest to sign him.
They just cleared $43.5 million in cap space by restructuring Patrick Mahomes‘ contract. But that does not mean Tyreek Hill, or his agent, would want to bank a major chunk of it.
His injury and age are already enough deterrents. They possibly want to monitor the WR’s recovery. As the Chiefs brace for another possible suspension for Rashee Rice, the last thing they would want is to pay someone just to sit in the medical room.
Andy Reid gives an update on Patrick Mahomes’ recovery
Whether or not Tyreek Hill signs with the Kansas City Chiefs is something that rests on his recovery and interest in signing a team-friendly contract.
For someone who has always held Patrick Mahomes as his best QB, the hope is that if a reunion does happen, the two would be a dominating duo, just like in the old times.
However, the signal caller is also out injured after facing a similar injury to his former pass catcher. On that note, there is still some apprehension on if he will be ready for the season-opener.
He’s around here all the time, spends a ton of time here, seven hours a day. He’s in there cranking away, making progress every day… He keeps showing up. That’s half the battle on these things… You gotta fight through it, and attack the challenge and rehab. He’s doing a great job with that.

This update points to the possibility of the three-time Super Bowl MVP making good progress in his recovery. Usually, it takes a year for an athlete to return to action.

Since the 30-year-old tore his ACL on December 14th, 2025, the ideal timeline to return would be in the same month this year. That, though, would see him miss most of the regular season, something neither he nor his team would want.
