Little has been by the book about Deion Sanders‘ tenure at the Colorado Buffaloes. From the very first press conference, Sanders imbued a sense of confidence that got under the skin of many.

It did not stop there. Then the trash talks about unusual recruiting tactics that his son Shedeur Sanders and Shilo Sanders are applying to attract quality players.

On Wednesday, Shilo shared a message on his Instagram Storyboard that irked many.

Shilo Sanders wrote

This was a nod to a famous Netflix show about junior college football. Although on the surface it may seem like a reasonable recruiting tactic from the Sanders brothers, former NFL guard and author Geoff Schwartz thinks otherwise. According to him, the CU’s unconventional approach to the game of football shows a lack of seriousness about their ambition.

This caught the eye of All-Pro wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who is also a big believer in Deion Sanders and his way of running things. Hill argued that there’s nothing wrong with thinking outside the box.

How is it unserious? They just don’t follow rules like these other boring programs.

Colorado and Sanders have not shied away from using the transfer portal to their advantage. Coach Prime famously cut most of the players who were there before him and replaced them with his choice of athletes. Despite the blunt nature of his approach, he never took a step back. 

On top of that, Coach Prime doesn’t bother directly visiting schools to recruit new players. The Hall of Famer faced criticism for only depending on the transfer portal to poach players from other teams.

Deion Sanders’ Colorado facing risk of losing players

Despite the flurry of promising young talent—three-star recruits, wide receiver Jacob Page, defensive lineman Zack Blackwood, and many more—the Buffaloes are facing challenges keeping hold of some of them. Per CBS Sports, Cormani McClain, the former five-star recruit cornerback, is close to joining the transfer portal.

The No. 13 overall recruit in the 223 class has three years left, which he can use. McClain previously joined the Miami Hurricanes but changed his mind after hearing Deion Sanders‘ words and committed to Colorado. He appeared in a total of nine games, starting four, and tallied 13 tackles and two pass breakups.

Sanders reportedly wasn’t happy with McClain’s laid-back attitude in 2023. He demanded attentiveness and more gusto from the young CB. After a few stop gaps, he played the final three games against Arizona State, Washington State, and Utah, allowing 18 catches for 380 yards from 25 targets.
